NV MIGNANEGO DOLCE ORO Moscato wines are all the rage these days, especially with those new to wine, who start off drinking something sweet. This liquid sweet gold has a unique perfume fragrance, with a creamy spritzy fruit forward profile that sets it apart from the hundreds of others on the market that vie for your attention. From its straw yellow color to its rich luscious flavors, it's no wonder why this Italian Moscato shouldn't be your first choice when shopping for the perfect frizzante.
2009 FINCA VIDES TORCIDAS MALBEC Trying to find a great value - good tasting Malbec is as hard as trying to find a pair of shoes for someone with 2 left feet. Trying this new gem on for size may likely be a perfect fit. Solid and smooth from the onset, blackberry, black currant and blueberry fruit blends nicely with its cola, black pepper and licorice backbone. A toasty roasted coffee finish is the final touch that makes this wine a rewarding heart and soul experience.
2008 MAYSARA JAMSHEED PINOT NOIR Every year for the past 5 years, I've been ordering a case of this magnificent Pinot Noir directly from the winery. I recently helped the Momtazi Family find a local distributor for their fabulous line of wines, and now, we Michigan Pinot lovers have access to some of the best the State of Oregon has to offer. The 2008 features intense pomegranate, plum, raspberry and deep dark cherry fruit flavors. Soft hints of tobacco, expansive layers of earth and mineral lead to a highly focused, complex and delicate wild berry finish. Welcome to the "Mitten" where you are sure to meet many new friends.
2010 MOLLY DOOKER "BLUE EYED BOY" SHIRAZ When you talk about the world of serious Shiraz, the folks at Molly Dooker ( Aussie slang for left handed) have to rate as one of the Kings at blowing your taste buds into a new stratosphere. I'm a big fan of their Boxer Shiraz but when I tasted their kicked up version of the Blue Eyed Boy, I couldn't believe that they could have packed more concentrated flavor into a single bottle. With a color hue hovering at deep purple to near black, an explosion of black cherry, chocolate, licorice, clove and spice hit your palate like a Muhammad Ali left hook. This wine isn't big, it's bigger than big. With its alcohol content listed at 16.5%, it's hard to believe that there is another specimen out there that could be bigger or better. I'll keep searching though!

DID YOU KNOW...............that there are approximately 58 million bubbles in a bottle of champagne, give or take a few million. With the wine under so much pressure, when carefully opening a bottle of bubbly, keep in mind that the cork leaves the bottle at a velocity of between 40 and 50 miles per hour
WINE TRIVIA.................What grape varietals make up sparkling Spanish Cava? The 3 main grapes are Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parelleda but in some instances, Chardonnay is now being included in some blends. A stark difference from French Champagne which uses Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier exclusively. |
