Greetings!

The Journey

"One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice - - -
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
'Mend my life!'
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations - - -
though their melancholy
was terrible. It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice,
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do - -  determined to save
the only life you could save."

~ Mary Oliver (Dream Works)

As we transition from one year to the next, one of my favorite poems by Mary Oliver seemed like a necessary inclusion in this month's newsletter. How has your journey been? What have you discovered? Do you have the courage to go deeper into the world this year? Wherever your journey takes you, I wish you safe travels filled with hope, health and happiness.

Wishing you a mindful 2016,
Pam

31 Day Mindfulness Challenge

wire-bound-pad.jpg

Want to jump start your mindfulness in the new year? Join me and friends from around the globe in a 31 day challenge!

Write one haiku a day for the month of January! The Japanese form of poetry called haiku is simple yet profound and pares down our observations to the essence. A haiku is a short sensory thought/poem that captures a feeling or image through words. The format is one that you may remember from elementary school...first line is 5 syllables, second line is 7 syllables and third line is 5 syllables for a total of a 17 syllable poem/thought. Mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment and so is the writing of a haiku. Please join me and others in this fun challenge during the month of January.

If you would like to share your haikus with others, please go to my website blog and copy your haiku into the comment section.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program Begins in January 2016
MBSR
The Winter/Spring 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) begins in January.

MBSR is the gold standard of programs teaching stress management, meditation and mindfulness tools. Jon Kabat-Zinn designed this innovative program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School more than 30 years ago and it is still the most comprehensive and effective programs that I have taught over the years. Monday evening and Friday morning classes are offered in beautiful, historic Concord, MA. Class size is limited to 16.

How Mindfulness Benefits CEOs
Hardly the bastion of new age thinking, the Harvard Business Review recently published an article on how mindfulness and meditation benefit CEOs.

Some of the qualities that mindfulness supports are increased focus, increased emotional intelligence and increased problem solving abilities...all essential qualities of a successful chief executive.
