The Summer Day~ Mary Oliver

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

Greetings!

Do you slide or stride into summer? Sliding is the passive default...striding is paying attention to the small changes of the seasons. In the jargon of the day, we must "opt-in" to be mindful. I am often met with confused looks when I say that mindfulness is an active process, not passive. To be mindful one must be awake, aware, and attentive. Of course none of us can be mindful 24/7, but wouldn't it be nice to actually opt-in each day and notice one thing that perhaps you wouldn't have seen or experienced otherwise? Like Mary Oliver's grasshopper, what will you notice? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

As always, I appreciate your thoughts, comments and feedback on this newsletter. Please  share it with your friends and colleagues.

Wishing you a month of striding into mindfulness,
Pam

2015 Summer Schedule

Meditation Maintenance Sessions
are a great way to give yourself a monthly self-care "tune-up" by joining with fellow meditators to discuss insights and challenges of your practice.

Due to a rent increase for my office space, 2015 Meditation Maintenance will be $20 per session. However, if this increase is difficult for you, I welcome you to pay whatever feels right for you. My intent in offering for these meditation sessions has always been and continues to be to create a space open, accessible and affordable to all.

Our general schedule is the 2nd Wednesday (evening) and 2nd Friday (afternoon) of each month. However, there may be some months when we will meet on other Wednesdays or Fridays. Please see the schedule below.

You are welcome to attend each month or simply on an occasional basis. You will find a supportive and welcoming respite in the midst of your busyness.
