January 2013
Greetings
                  Living Healthy
Welcome 2013 -- what are you going to do with this new day, new year? If you are like the majority of adults in the United States, you made some resolutions coming into the new year, and  these resolutions may have already begun to fall by the wayside.

This year, let's resolve to be a bit kinder and gentler to ourselves in this yearly quest for perfection. Let's try mindfulness.  Mindfulness is not about perfection, it is actually about imperfection...acknowledging and noticing that being human is an exercise in balancing the vulnerability and strength that each of us holds within. Mindfulness is about noticing the "what is" not the "what will be" or the "what was".  Perhaps if we can resolve to simply notice one breath for one minute each day, we can truly succeed in awakening to a new year of possibilities.

May your new year be filled with possibilities,

Pam

New Year's Resolutions

Do you make New Year's resolutions?  Statistics reveal that nearly half of all American adults make yearly self-improvement resolutions, yet only 8% are successful at maintaining them.  Interesting to note that while 75% of us are able to keep our resolutions for one week, that number declines rapidly to less than 45% by six months.

Stanford researcher Dr. B.J. Fogg Fogg Behavior Modelhas studied resolutions, in the form of behavior change, and what makes behavior change so hard to maintain. He has found that for a behavior change to be sustainable, one must have the convergence of three elements: Motivation, Ability, and Triggers.

By noticing and shifting these three elements perhaps we can be more successful in sustaining those New Year's resolutions past January! Starting or restarting a meditation practice is a behavior change, let me know if you need support in making and maintaining this positive change in 2013.
