Last week over 100 volunteers joined us for our Hurricane Sandy Anniversary Blitz Build in Middletown, Keansburg and Union Beach. The Blitz Build commemorated the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy the most devastating disaster to hit our area. Even two years later our community continues to suffer; including some of our most vulnerable neighbors. The week also featured special guests Governor and Mary Pat Christie who made a visit to one of our worksites in Union Beach to speak with our homeowner, volunteers and the community.

We wish to thank all of our event sponsors for their support. A shout out to T&M Associates, Chase, Thrivent Financial, the Jersey Strong Foundation, the American Red Cross and the Hurricane Sandy NJ Relief Fund for helping make the event a success.

Volunteers from Chase work on site in Union Beach

Our volunteers, including groups from T&M Associates, Chase, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Lowes and Navy at Lakehurst worked on five different projects throughout the week. On Saturday, volunteers from six areas schools - Brookdale Community College, Ranney, Rumson - Fair Haven, Marlboro, Middletown North and Middletown South - participated in our very first House that Youth Built event! These volunteers worked in a tent on the property - in the rain - to build walls for our homeowner Anna!
