It's Official: Western Monmouth and Northeastern Monmouth Affiliates Merge!

We are proud to announce that Habitat for Humanity of Northeastern Monmouth and Habitat for Humanity of Western Monmouth have merged into one affiliate that will serve 83% of Monmouth County. The two affiliates will combine their resources, boards and staffs to serve more than 30 towns throughout the area and increase the number of new homeownership opportunities for low-income families and continue to lead Superstorm Sandy relief work in the combined service area. It is the largest Habitat affiliate in Monmouth County.

In addition to the expanded service area, the organization now includes a ReStore operation, currently located in Freehold. Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County will continue its work on Superstorm Sandy related projects building on the excitement generated by the 2013 Carter Work Project the organization hosted last October and look to begin construction on new homes in the expanded service area within the next year. To date the combined organization, has assisted over 80 families impacted by Superstorm Sandy and completed 39 new home projects for families across the county along with numerous critical home repairs.

Volunteer Spotlight:

Jake Salvatore and

Kris
Morgan

This winter has been an exceptionally cold one for Monmouth County. For those still recovering from Sandy, proper insulation is a still a very big need. However, thanks to two of our new volunteers, Jake Salvatore and Kristoff Morgan, our homeowners are a lot warmer. Both Jake and Kris suited up for the daunting task of going into a crawlspace to install insulation underneath a homeowner's house in Union Beach.

Faith in Action: Continuing our Mission

So much of what we do as an organization is dependent on our work with our very strong and dedicated faith based partners! So far this year, we had the opportunity to visit with parishioners at the United Methodist of Middletown where we shared our mission and encouraged them to help us support families across Monmouth County.

We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Tower Hill Presbyterian (Red Bank) and its Sandy Recovery Team. They have announced they will purchase and install all kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities for both of our new builds and one additional reconstructed home. We are grateful for this recent commitment and for the continuing support that Tower Hill provides for our families in need.

Calling All Faith Leaders: If you are a leader in your church community and interested in learning more about how you can partner with us on building homes please join us for our first annual "Building on Faith" breakfast at Trinity Episcopal Church, 65 West Front Street, Red Bank NJ. Please call 732.728.0441 ext. 0 for more information.

Did you know the 2013 Home for the Holidays Cars for Homes Campaign raised over $5,000 for our affiliate! Thanks to everyone who donated their old vehicles to help build and repair homes. If you have an old car or boat that you wish to donate please visit www.carsforhomes.org for more information. All donations are tax deductible!

Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County Blesses Two New Homes

Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County is pleased to welcome two new partner families into their homes. On January 17, Habitat board members, staff, and volunteers blessed the home of Elizabeth Rodriguez and her two young daughters. Liz was a dedicated volunteer, working at new builds, Sandy rehabs, and even mowing the grass at Habitat's offices, to earn her "sweat equity".  The family's previous residence was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy and Liz then applied for a Habitat house, she said of the process, "I got on my knees and prayed."  She and her family moved into her new home in Long Branch in 2013.  "It's been a big blessing.  It came at the right time," said Liz.  "I thank God for this program."

The Terwilliger family had an uncharacteristically long wait for their new home. Construction began in the summer of 2012, but was delayed and at times halted, while attention was shifted to critical home repair for Sandy victims. A dedicated team of volunteers stayed focused on completing the work and on January 18, the family was finally welcomed to their new home, said Donna Terwilliger, "We are so grateful for the opportunity to start over, it's been a long road and we are thankful we can call this home ours." Donna and her sons look forward to settling in in the next few months.

We welcome our Habitat families to their new homes, and wish them God's grace and blessings!
