"BE A HERO"

James 5:19-20: Dear brothers, if anyone has slipped away from God and no longer trusts the Lord and someone helps him understand the Truth again, 20 that person who brings him back to God will have saved a wandering soul from death, bringing about the forgiveness of his many sins. TLB

We hear of hero's when we watch the news or read the paper. Lots of times hero's are those who have done something to save someone else from death. Maybe you've had the opportunity to be a hero to someone, or, maybe not. In reading this passage we all have the opportunity to be a hero. What greater accomplishment than to save a wandering soul from death.

We are surrounded by those who have slipped away from God and no longer trust the Lord, they need someone who will help them understand the Truth again. So many times in Christianity when someone slips away we push them to the curb because they aren't as strong as us or as "spiritual" as us, or so we think. We are called to be a light in this world, to bring hope to the hurting. We are called to go to the curb, pick up those who have been kicked aside and help them understand the Truth again.

This passage says, "that person who brings him back to God will have saved a wandering soul from death, bringing about the forgiveness of his many sins." You may never save a person from physical or natural death, but what an accomplishment to be able to be used to save people from spiritual death. Christians, this needs to be on the top of our list of things to do. If we don't reach them, who will?

I like how this passage reads in The Message translation: "My dear friends, if you know people who have wandered off from God's truth, don't write them off. Go after them. Get them back 20 and you will have rescued precious lives from destruction and prevented an epidemic of wandering away from God." We need to start going after these, chase them down and get them back. Will it be hard work sometimes? Yes, but it will be rewarding. I cannot think of anything more rewarding than to save a soul from death.

Purpose in your heart to be a hero and go after those who have slipped away.

Blessings ~ Steve

God called him into ministry in his late twenties and he has enjoyed every minute of it. Stephen previously served as Assistant Pastor in Fort Fairfield, Maine. God has since called him and his family to Georgia where they will get involved in ministry in whatever way they are directed.
