"IT'S NOT DEAD!"
Mark 5:35-42: While He was still speaking, there came some from the ruler's house, who said [to Jairus], Your daughter has died. Why bother and distress the Teacher any further? 36 Overhearing but ignoring what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear; only keep on believing. 37 And He permitted no one to accompany Him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. 38 When they arrived at the house of the ruler of the synagogue, He looked [carefully and with understanding] at [the] tumult and the people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 And when He had gone in, He said to them, Why do you make an uproar and weep? The little girl is not dead but is sleeping. 40 And they laughed and jeered at Him. But He put them all out, and, taking the child's father and mother and those who were with Him, He went in where the little girl was lying. 41 Gripping her [firmly] by the hand, He said to her, Talitha cumi - which translated is, Little girl, I say to you, arise [from the sleep of death]! 42 And instantly the girl got up and started walking around - for she was twelve years old. And they were utterly astonished and overcome with amazement. AMP
I hope to encourage you this week to not look at your present circumstances and become discouraged. Some of you have circumstances in your life, promises, that you've written off as dead but the Lord says it's not dead, it's only asleep! Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear; only keep on believing.
That word sleep or asleep means: into a dormant or inactive state; to rest. I chose the Amplified version of this passage because I like what it says in verse 36 in reference to Jesus. He was still speaking and some came to report to Jairus that his daughter was dead but they didn't want to bother the Teacher any further. The beginning of verse 36 says: "Overhearing but ignoring what they said..." There may be reports that look like your situation is dead but Jesus doesn't listen to the reports. He overhears them but ignores what they say. Maybe you yourself have spoken death to your situation. He's not listening to you either! Your situation isn't dead it's only sleeping!
As Jesus continued on people were weeping and wailing loudly, His response. "Why do you make and uproar and weep? The little girl is not dead but is sleeping." He then went into the home and declared, "Little girl, I say to you, arise from the sleep of death!" After that the people were astonished and overcome with amazement. When I read this it struck me. I'm telling you, as sure as I'm writing this, some of you have situations that look so dead and impossible it's going to astonish and amaze people when it turns around. The Lord is saying to you and your situation right now, Arise from the sleep of death!
For the past week I've had one word the Lord keeps speaking to me and that word is "Now". I'm going to be sharing more on that one word at Celebration Center on Sunday evening. There's a "Now" coming in your life. Declare over your life and your circumstance, it's not dead!
