"HIGHER"

Isaiah 55:9: For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. NLT

I've included a song this week that I'd like you to take time and listen to. I've also included the lyrics to the song. The message of the song, I believe, is a timely message to us as believers. We can sit in the comfortable, we can sit and just wait for His goodness, His presence, but He's calling us higher, He's calling us deeper.

It's easy to get stuck in the comfortable, in what we know. He's calling you higher and deeper; will you go where He's leading you? His ways are much higher than ours; His thoughts are much higher than ours.

I believe this ties in with what I wrote last week. As the winds shift, as we allow the Holy Spirit to do what He wants we will find that He's calling us to a place that's much higher and deeper than anything we've had in mind. The Church's greatest days are ahead but we've got to be open to stepping out of the comfortable and into the unknown. Imagine The Church singing the lyrics to this song:

I could just sit

I could just sit and wait for all Your goodness

Hope to feel Your presence

And I could just stay

I could just stay right where I am and hope to feel You

Hope to feel something again

And I could hold on

I could hold on to who I am and never let You

Change me from the inside

And I could be safe

I could be safe here in Your arms and never leave home

Never let these walls down

But You have called me higher

You have called me deeper

And I'll go where You will lead me Lord

You have called me higher

You have called me deeper

And I'll go where You lead me Lord

Where You lead me

Where You lead me Lord

This has a two-fold purpose. As this becomes the hearts cry of The Church it will become the hearts cry of the people, and as this becomes the hearts cry of the people, it will become the hearts cry of The Church.

Church, it's time to go higher and deeper. It's not time to want to just sit and wait for His goodness, hope to feel His presence. As I said last week, it's time to extend our invitation to the Holy Spirit again. Church, it's not time to hold on to who we are and not let Him change us from the inside, to be safe and not let our walls down. He's calling us higher.

The Message version of this passage says: "For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think." We have to let go of what we know and let the Lord lead us to where He wants us. It's time to go higher; it's time to go deeper.

Take time to listen to this song, more than once, make it your prayer this week.

Stephen's Gate is a weekly devotion that purposes to encourage people to live the victorious life God has called them to. Stephen grew up in a Christian home and was raised in Church. As a young boy he was very shy and never wanted to be the center of attention, however, he always had the desire to preach and minister to others. God called him into ministry in his late twenties and he has enjoyed every minute of it. Stephen previously served as Assistant Pastor in Fort Fairfield, Maine. God has since called him and his family to Georgia where they will get involved in ministry in whatever way they are directed. Stephen is an ordained minister under Celebration Center. He has been married to his wife Kristen for 9 years and has two beautiful girls, Abigail and Sydney.
