DISTRICT 5 ROUNDUP - February 22, 2013

Dear Friends,

Happy February to all of you!  It's hard to believe that January has already come and gone....

This last month I turned the Chairman's Gavel over to Jim Holmes who will be Chairing the Board Of Supervisors meetings for 2013. I had the very happy opportunity to attend a celebration for the Truckee Donner Land Trust and Trust for Public Land's acquisition of the 3,500 acres on Donner Summit often called the Royal Gorge property. (See below for a photo of that celebration). I attended the Colfax and Auburn Veterans Hall Board meetings and am working closely with our Veterans in the County to be certain they have access to their full spectrum of benefits.  I continue to work with Mike Holmes from the City of Auburn on issues relating to the Auburn State Recreation Area and we have high hopes for the future of ASRA.  I'm very sad to note the passing of Bill Carnazzo a Foresthill resident and fishing guide-Bill was a tireless advocate for wise use and protection of our natural resources and he will be sorely missed.  The County continues to participate actively in getting information out about the proposed Village at Squaw Valley project and we remain committed to full openness and transparency throughout that process.

In February (in addition to celebrating my birthday and Valentine's Day) I traveled to Washington DC for our annual County Legislative Outreach trip.  I will be certain to give an update on those meetings in my next email.  Meanwhile, as always, let me, Jocelyn and Steve know how we are doing and how we can help!
