Apps Teens and Pre-Teens love that Parents Need to Monitor

Ask.fm App

Why Your Teen Loves It: Ask.fm is one of the hottest social networking sites that is almost exclusively used by teenagers
and pre-teens. 25% of teens have posted something on ask.fm over the past 30 days. It is a question and answers site that allows user to ask anonymous questions. Ask.Fm has Twitter and Facebook integration that allows users to connect with all their friends on those popular sites.

Why You Should Monitor It: Due to intense bullying, Ask.fm has led to 4 documented cases of suicide in the United States, Ireland, and Great Britain. User engage in hyper bullying by constantly asking inappropriate and derogatory questions. The app is totally anonymous and is not being monitored by the developers.

The key for parents is to monitor downloaded apps on their child's phone. Google the apps to learn if they are dangerous or inappropriate. Gather all of your child's passwords and user names for monitoring purposes. If your teen refuses to give you his or her passwords, then download spyware such as Mspy to review your teen's cell phone activity. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

We hope this information has been helpful, thank you.

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,

We have turned the corner past the middle of Lent.  I wonder how you are faring on your Lenten sacrifices and promises.  If you have given up some or all of your sacrifice, pick it back up. There is still time to help Jesus carry the cross!  If you are doing well with your sacrifices, purify your intention to eliminate all trace of self-congratulations that you have come so far, and take on the posture of deep humility and offering to God.  Even when we do good works, we need to be on guard, lest pride come and take away the fruit!  Our intention during Lent, with whatever prayer, fasting, and almsgiving we take on, is to remove the distractions from our lives that keep us from putting proper focus on the Lord as our Redeemer and Savior for eternal life.  Lent is to be a sobering season, fewer feasts on the liturgical calendar, no parties in the school.  We are taking inventory in our spiritual lives. This is serious business, and it is serious work, and the Church gives us this beautiful season of grace, if we will take advantage of it, to renew our relationship with Jesus Christ. Perhaps at this point in Lent, if we have been faithful to our promises for these 20-couple days, we may be in a position to better hear what the Lord is calling us to.  The Lord calls us all to holiness, to Himself, to love, to service of our neighbor.  If we will build the stamina to sit with the Lord each day, to meditate on how He has shown His love for us in so many ways - through the covenants, saving the Israelites from slavery, sending the prophets to preach God's word, and the great gift of Himself, who died upon the cross for us - we will be able to respond with a sacrifice that is derived from love, like God's own sacrifice.  When we see this relationship in the light of love, we will not find it difficult to give up chocolate for a few weeks, or to pray with Scripture for 10 minutes each day, or whatever we promised during Lent.  Love is only properly returned with love.  Our love for God is a response to His love for us, but we must take time to think about and receive His love new each day. Love makes sacrifice easy.  Love lightens Lent!  Be courageous in your promise and persevere and let's pray for one another!

God bless you,

Sister Dominic
