Apps Teens and Pre-Teens love that Parents Need to Monitor
Kik Messenger
Kik Messenger (http://kik.com/)
Why Your Teen Loves It: This app is a super quick instant messaging app with over 100 million users that allow teens to exchange videos, pics, and sketches. New Kik cards allow user send Youtube videos, create memes, and gifs without leaving the app. Kik Cards reached over 2 million users within first week of their launch.
Why Monitoring is Needed Teens are using the Kik app for sexting and dating. Teens are sending inappropriate selfies to one another through the app. The term sex buddy is being replaced with Kik Buddy. Teens used Reddit and other forum sites to place classified ads for sex by giving out their Kik usernames. Kik does not offer any parental controls. Additionally, there is no way of authenticating users thus making it easy for pedophiles to use the messenger app.

| Great Job Mr. Politte running for Mount Carmel!
The Shamrock Marathon is the oldest continuously running road race in Virginia Beach! Over 28,000 runners of various ages ran over Saint Patrick's Day weekend in Virginia Beach. Mr. Politte, a former Marine, now an employee at Casey Chevrolet. With his family's support, Craig turned toward running for fitness and wellness. Craig's wife, Alison Politte is an alumnus of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School. Mr. Politte is donating 100% of the money raised to support a non-competitive extracurricular athletic and fitness program at OLMC School. This program will offer students the fundamental skills for many sports and the life-long habits for overall wellness. Additional donations will fund an emerging reader program for the School's Pre-Kindergarten students. Mr. Politte whole-heartedly values the combination of excellent academics and Catholic education defining the Mount Carmel mission for students in grades Pre-K 3 through 8th. Craig estimates that he ran over 580 miles in preparation for the 26.2 mile marathon. Each step taken in and during the marathon was dedicated to the OLMC students. Mr. Politte does not see himself as a champion for this cause, yet a father simply wanting to do something to help out a school that his family loves. "This is so much bigger than me; I am motivated by the students and will keep going for this worthy cause." The OLMC School faculty, staff, students, and families supported Mr. Craig Politte in his efforts by making cards, cheering along the race course, and by making tax deductible donations. Please show your support in one of three ways, with no minimum or maximum to donate:
1. Go online at www.olmc-school.com; click the donate button at the bottom left of the page, and make a donation. Please designate "Miles" in the company field on the online form.
2. Mail your tax-deductible donation to OLMC School-Miles 4 Mount Carmel, 52 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601.
3. Drop off your tax-deductible donation to the school's office Monday through Friday, from 8:00-3:00 pm. Please designate "Miles" on the memo section of your check.
