Apps Teens and Pre-Teens love that Parents Need to Monitor
Snap Chat
Why Your Teen Loves It Snapchat allows users to send images and videos to their friend lists. The secret sauce is that the sender can place a time limit on how long the receiver reviews the image or video. The content or "Snaps" self-destruct from 1-10 seconds based upon the time limit set by the users. After the snap self-destructs it is also deleted from the Snapchat Servers. Teens love snapchat because of it's simplicity and speed. It sends photos and videos much faster than standard text messages. Teens sends millions of snaps throughout the day.
Why Monitoring is Needed Snapchat is the number one sexting app on the market. Teens send inappropriate snaps to their friends and significant others under the impression that snaps self-destruct. Forensic Experts have stated the snaps can easily be recovered thus they are never truly deleted from the receiver's phone. Due to the countless number of inappropriate snaps, pornographic sites have popped up over the internet to take advantage of the free content. There have also been numerous cases of bullying with the app.

From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
It seems Lent has crept up on us as we were deciding whether to pack up our winter coats or keep them on hand in case of strange weather. Lent is a great time for us to get into strong spiritual shape, not unlike how we care for our bodies to keep them in good health. We take care of what we eat, and how much; we make a commitment to walk, or play recreational sports, or purchase a gym membership, all to ensure that our bodies are fit and that our hearts are healthy for a long life. It is an act of stewardship to care for the body God gave us and in which He dwells. How much MORE important is the care and shape of our souls which are immortal. Like in physical training, we give up foods that weigh us own, so also in the spiritual training, we give up the vices which weigh down the soul with sin. The gossip, the comparisons of "my child" to another or "my house" which causes division in a Christian community, the turning away from someone in need - all of these are weights upon the soul like eating an entire pan of brownies before a five-mile run. The body cannot perform well under these conditions, and neither can the soul. Also, in physical training, we take on those activities which help us to grow stronger. We begin a weight-lifting regime, or devote time to running or walking or an exercise class. This takes planning, time, and most of all a committed perseverance. So also, for our Lenten spiritual training, we take on those practices that make the soul radiant. We evaluate our sacramental life as the primary means by which our soul are united to God - first cleansed of sin in reconciliation, and than more and more united to Him through worthy reception of the Blessed Sacrament, at least on Sunday, and more often for those who are able to attend one or more daily Masses. The practices that Jesus speaks of, and that the prophets of the Old Testament proclaim are works of mercy: caring for the widow and orphan, paying a just wage, welcoming the stranger, correcting the sinner and bringing him back from sinful ways, comforting those in sorrow. God says that when we practice these things, He will, in turn, hear our prayers, because we have cared for His concerns and His children who are in need. Let's encourage each other to continue on the Lenten road we have chosen, or which God has chosen for us. Let us offer our sufferings in union with Jesus Christ on the cross, and allow our hearts to expand in generosity toward others - our brothers and sisters in Christ. With prayers for your families, Sister Dominic
