Teacher Spotlight Mrs. Lori Tietjens is just one of the fabulous teachers at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School. Mrs. Tietjens knows OLMC School is special because of the presence of Jesus in all that is learned, shared, and celebrated at the school. Mrs. Tietjens is inspired by her Kindergarten teacher who showed her kindness and love which Mrs. Tietjens carries on in her classroom. Mrs. Tietjens loves the memories she is creating with her students, watching them grow as learners, and seeing the delight on their faces as they master a new skill. In a house filled with boys Mrs. Tietjens likes the color pink, finds time to ride her bike, and loves to read and making rosaries. Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is fortunate to have Mrs. Tietjens as she brings her talents to the school, strives to see the gifts given to all by Jesus, and brightens the day of so many young Crusaders! |

From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Friends of OLMC School,
We have found our way back to the liturgical season of Ordinary Time. I love how in the Scriptures Ordinary Time presents the passages Jesus casting out devils left and right, healing deadly diseases, and walking on water. When God becomes Man, this is ordinary stuff.
But Jesus, God-Man, did not come to earth to put on an astonishing show for us to watch, but to draw us into the mystery of His very life. And we enter into this mystery, where God and man dwell in peace, through sacramental baptism. Our Holy Father Pope Francis I has been bringing to our attention to the sacraments saying they are not just decorations for big moments of our life, but really deliver the graces sufficient to live a holy life. He has begun, through his Wednesday audiences at St. Peter's, to teach on the sacraments. About baptism, he said that the"unbaptized child and the baptized child are not the same. The unbaptized person and the baptized person are not the same." These are bold words in a world that seeks harmony at the expense of truth. But his teaching is true - baptism truly removes the stain of original sin from our souls, with with we are all born. We are born at enmity with God, and baptism is the sacramental way of partaking of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, reconciling us to God. What a good and gracious God. He could have required a similar, willing sacrifice from all of us - a willing death on the gruesome cross - to reconcile us to God. But He has chosen, in His infinite mercy and kindness, to make it easy, attractive, beautiful - using cleansing waters of the earth. We do well to immerse ourselves in the truth of this mystery. In a world that discounts the invisible (grace, God, angels, devils) we must meditate on the truths revealed by God that help us to live a full Christian life.
The Holy Father also recently encouraged his hearers, if they do not know it already, to learn the date of their baptism and to celebrate. More important than entering into the life of this world, which we celebrate (and rightly so) with great joy and festivity, is our entrance into eternal life which is life in God, which begins at baptism. I encourage you, along with our Holy Father, to learn the date of your baptism and those of your family, and to celebrate them.
May God who brought us into His family through baptism, bring us to the perfection in which He has in mind for each of us - to become saints!
With prayers or your families,
Sister Dominic
