Dear Parents and Friends of OLMC School,
I am sure your children are eagerly awaiting their report cards coming home at the end of the week. They look very respectable for first trimester grades and I commend you and them for a great start to the school year. I encouraged the students to take time to reflect on what went well, and why, and to plan to confirm the good habits. I also encouraged them to consider any teacher comments that give direction for where improvement is needed, and to make a plan for those improvements in second trimester. You are doing a great job with your children and I thank God for each and every one of them!
You may recall that the 10-point diocesan mandated grading scale went into effect at the beginning of this academic year. I had since published through the OLW several times, as well as announced at both Back-to-School nights this year, that at OLMC we will retain internally the higher scale for purposes of academic eligibility for principal's list, NJHS, and athletic eligibility. The faculty and staff were unanimous in considering the higher standard appropriate for OLMC School, whereas the 10-point scale will help our children who go on to public high schools and 4-year colleges.
At Friday Mass this week, we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Cecilia, Virgin and Martyr, and patroness of the Dominican Sisters from Nashville. St. Cecilia was of Roman nobility and was highly educated and respected in her day. She was known for her works of charity, particularly her love and service to the poor. From her youth, St. Cecilia dedicated her entire life to God. In great strength and courage, particularly uncommon for women of the time, she withstood the torments and tortures the Empire and executioners inflicted upon her, rather than denounce the true and universal divinity of Jesus Christ. She had the opportunity, standing before the Roman magistrate, to bow to the gods of the Empire, but she refused, knowing that loyalty to God out of love was greater than sparing her own earthly life, and that it would be rewarded forever in eternity. Let us continue to invoke St. Cecilia to intercede for such strength and conviction - to know that God's love is not only worth living for, but worth dying for. Let us rebuild a culture of heroism for truly great things!
With prayers for you and your families,
Sister Dominic, O.P.

Craft Fair
Our annual craft fair is almost here! This event has been hosted by OLMC School for many years and is greatly anticipated by over 100 vendors and many shoppers. It is a great day to do some shopping, enjoy some great food, and earn some volunteer hours.
Your help is greatly needed. Please consider volunteering your time in one of the following ways to support our vendors and our school.
o Notify anyone who might be interested in a booth, there are 28 spaces left for vendors.
o Provide baked goods for our bake sale table - items need be individually wrapped and ready for sale - please indicate if an item contains peanuts to avoid any allergic reactions.
o Make some Brunswick Stew - This is one of the most popular food items at the craft fair each year and a large quantity must be made. If you think you might like to help with this, please reply as soon as possible to be sure we have enough. A recipe and plastic storage containers will be provided.
o Help with set-up, during the fair, and clean-up - Friday after school (3:30 pm to 6:00 pm), during the day on Saturday (6:00 am to 9 am, 9 am to 12 pm, 12 pm to 3 pm) and clean-up Saturday afternoon (3 pm to 5 pm). You don't have to commit to the entire 3 hour shift - whatever time you can spend is greatly appreciated.
o Gift wrap donations - donate wrapping paper, gift bags, bows, tissue paper, ribbon, or tape for our gift wrapping station - items can be dropped off at the front office.
Please prayerfully consider where you might be able to help, and email Melanie Houle at mel_houle@hotmail.com. Please indicate "Craft Fair Volunteer" in the subject line.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at tmcgee1995@msn.com or 870-7160.
