Let's hear it for Technology!

So many students are benefiting from the purchase of the iPads, last year's Fund an Item. First, a heartfelt thank you to all who helped to make this a reality.

Miss Schlask's 5th grade class used both the iPads and AppleTV for class group activities. "The students enjoy using the Catholic Children's Bible app from St. Mary's press," Miss Schlask said.  The students pass around the iPad reading stories out loud. To incorporate the technology further, students drag inpictures in to retell the story and unscramble vocabulary words. Additioanlly, the 5th grade students have recorded their book report presentations, researched the Saint of the Day, and checked the weather and current events. The students love the hands on aspect and technology being incorporated into their learning. Looking ahead see how Mrs. George and Sister Beatrice have implemented the iPads into their instructional time.

Dear Parents and Friends of OLMC School,

Please see attached a newsletter from the Office of Catholic Schools

Parents of club participants: Please be on time to pick up your children from after school clubs and activities.  The teachers and parent volunteers love to provide these extra curricular activities at little or no extra cost to your families, because the activities are often so enriching.  The parent handbook states that parents who are late to pick up children are charged a sum for every minute they are late. We all understand emergencies, but please plan to be on time or early to pick up children from after school clubs and activities.  Thank you for your consideration and courtesy.

With prayers for your families,

Sister Dominic

Science Fair: The whole school science fair will be on display on Thursday November 7th.  We invite everyone to attend, and in particular, the middle school students can have an opportunity to speak with the judges and answer questions about their projects.  Mrs. Rizzi is offering some extra credit to students who attend.  OLMC uniform is optional for this evening.

Book Fair: a two-for-one: The book fair will also be open on the evening of November 7th, so it is a great night to come to OLMC!!

Art-to-Remember: Please be sure to submit your child's Art-to-remember by Friday, November 8th to ensure delivery by Christmas.

End of 1st Trimester: The first trimester ends on November 15th.  Please keep in mind that while the grading standard has changed for report card and GPA purposes, the School will maintain its higher standard of eligibility for principal's list, academic honors and eligibility, and also for athletic eligibility.

St. Albert's Feast Day: In honor of St. Albert, patron saint of scientists, the OLMC 8:15 School  Mass on November 15th will be a special Mass in honor of local Catholic and Christian scientists.  Following the Mass Dr. Bill Smart will give a brief presentation on integrating faith and reason in the life of the scientist.  While this is particularly relevant to anyone engaged in the field of science, research, engineering, medicine, it is of wide interest simply for all who live in our culture today.  All are invited for this Year of Faith presentation at St. Michael's Hall.  ________________________________________________________________

We are looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Making a Difference Run Cancelled

Thank you to all who have planned to participate and worked diligently to promoted the Making a Difference Run.  Sadly, due to mounting conflicts which are proving to be insurmountable at this time, OLMC School has decided to cancel the Making a Difference Run scheduled to be held on November 9, 2013. The City of Newport News is unable to confirm the needed permits required for the event. Those registered participants will receive a full refund.  If runners are still interested in running that weekend there is a race at CNU the following day. Thank you for your understanding.  Please contact the School with any questions.

There is a link below to the race at CNU.  The race benefits the CNU Alumni Society and is included in many other Homecoming weekend activities. The race is dually sponsored by CNU and the race management company Flat Out.
