From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Friends of OLMC School,
Thank you to all who came out to make the Fall Festival a great event for OLMC School this year. More than 350 people came to share in the fellowship, games, and picnic meal. Our 8th graders were terrific facilitators of the indoor and outdoor games for smaller children; our face painters had some impressive designs; our grillers would make any scout proud; and certainly our Home and School were the strength behind it all, supporting the entire event - a special thank you to Julie Nguyen for coordinating such a successful Fall Festival.
I also wish to thank Mrs. Madden and her troop of Girl Scouts who are working toward their Bronze Badge of Service this year. She coordinated a morning of beautifying the grounds, trimming hedges, spreading mulch, and preparing for the winter months. Thank you to all the girls and to our OLMC families who continue to care for our grounds.
Please pray for all of our priests, especially Father John David, Father Carlos, and Father Peter, as they are away at the Richmond priests' convocation. It is a time for prayer, fraternal friendship, and inservices, to gather the strength and zeal they need to return and serve us as Christ among us in the parish.
October is the month dedicated to the Rosary, because on October 7th in 1572, Pope Pius V asked all Christians to pray the Rosary, asking Mary to intercede for the city of Rome which was under imminent attack by a Turkish naval fleet. The odds were greatly against Rome, and yet, the Roman soldiers did miraculously turn the battle, and the city was saved. The pope attributed this miracle to Our Lady of the Rosary whom all had invoked in prayer, and the month of October was thereafter the month dedicated to the Rosary. The Rosary is a tremendously powerful prayer. Please consider joining us on Thursday to pray the Rosary in the gym at 2:00 PM. The prayer will be student-led.
Dear Parents - especially of middle school students - please take the time needed to ensure that you know what social media sites your children are on, what their login information is, and to talk with your children about what is posted on the sites. I can assure that there is inappropriate texting going on between children who attend the school, as well as others outside the school. Please check Instagram, text messaging, omegle, and other sites that you or your children know about. My principle for allowing children access to these sites would be if they are consistently respectful in their speech to you, to their siblings, relatives, teachers, and friends in person, they will likely tend to be respectful online. If your children are disrespectful to you, their siblings, teachers, or friends, they should not be given access to spread the disrespect further through social media. Disrespect toward other people is at the heart of intolerance, hatred, crime, violence, etc. Please talk to your children about respecting other people - we all need to hear it from time to time, and we all need to be very intentional about practicing it. Let's work together to ensure that our culture and environment is one that is Christ-centered. We cannot do this in the school without you! Thank you for taking the time to teach and reinforce these important lessons!!
We have an Open House coming up in mid-November. If you know any families who may wish to learn more about OLMC School, please consider inviting them to our Open House. More information will be coming in your Wednesday folders.
With prayers for your families,
Sister Dominic
