Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,

In the gospel reading for today, we hear the simple, direct, and effective plan of Jesus as He sent His apostles out into the world to proclaim the gospel.  There are three main verbs used in this short passage: summoned, gave, and sent.  He summoned the Twelve. He gave them power and authority.  He sent them to proclaim.  To do the work of the Lord - to bear fruit for His kingdom - we first must respond to His summons. It is He who initiates, calls, and bestows the graces and powers needed for the work He has assigned us to do.  It is by drawing near to Him and receiving these graces that we learn our identity and our mission as Christians.

As we continue to celebrate 60 years at OLMC, we remember that our mission is largely directed by the work and mission of the Dominican charism, since this school was founded on and shaped by Dominican charism of preaching and teaching for the salvation of souls.  St. Dominic, like the apostles who preceded him, was summoned by the Lord Jesus, was given power and authority, and was sent out to proclaim the gospel.  St. Dominic loved the Person of Jesus Christ deeply and wanted all people to know the truth about Him and to draw near to Him.  St. Dominic is often invoked under the title or phrase "Most zealous for the salvation of souls."  We know in our world today that there are many who do not know the truth about Jesus Christ - either they have never heard of Him as God and Savior, or have drifted from any relationship with Him, or simply associate God, religion, and other supernatural realities as impossible or irrelevant to their lives.  Like St. Dominic, and like the apostles, let us draw near to God in answer to His summons.  Let us be filled with His graces and the power and authority that He chooses to give for the building of His kingdom, and let us go in obedience to be about the work He has given us to do.

Each night in Dominican convents and monasteries, the sons and daughters of Saint Dominic sing an ancient Latin antiphon which is called the O Lumen and invokes his prayers under his primary titles. The translation follows.  I invite you to pray along in asking the intercession of St. Dominic each day.  Listen to the Latin Dominican Chant version here.

Light of the Church; Teacher of Truth; Rose of Patience; Ivory of Chastity...You freely poured forth the waters of wisdom.  Preacher of Grace, unite us with the Blessed.

With prayers for your families,
Sister Dominic

Campus Clean Up

I would like to extend a very hearty thank you to everyone who showed up to work on Campus Clean Up day last Saturday.  We accomplished an unbelievable amount of work around the grounds including refreshing the playground look, removing obtrusive tree branches, clearing brush, preparing for mulching, pruning trees, and so much more.  Thank you to our heroic and persevering volunteers.  If you didn't get a chance to log your hours in the binder outside, please make sure you come into the front office to do so.
