Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,

As we aim to set the tone and direction of our school year, we do well to reflect on the scriptural theme selected to guide the months ahead: "we walk by faith, not by sight" from St. Paul's second letter to the Corinthians.  More and more we encounter diverse philosophies and belief systems which people live by, or profess to live by, in our world today.  How is it that so many billions of people today, and through the history of the world, can see and experience the exact same things, yet have vastly different interpretations of what they mean?!  Where one person sees human life as sacred and able to participate in divinity, another may see a complex of cells and mere "biological matter."  Where one person may see someone suffering in a terminal illness as an unnecessary waste, another may see in it a participation in the redemptive suffering of Jesus Christ for the salvation of the world. Or one person may see a homeless man on the street, and another, seeing the same man, recognizes Jesus Christ, in His distressing disguise among us.  The lens through which we look, or the center around which we organize our lives, determines our interpretation of life itself. If we are Christ-centered, we put on His mind and learn to see the world as He sees it, using our eyes of faith. Beginning each day with the Creed in this Year of Faith, the students, faculty, and staff are perfecting their vision by putting on the lenses of faith, seeing the world around them as it truly is in Christ, and learning to navigate their way accordingly.  Join us in adjusting our vision asking for the grace of seeing ourselves and the world around us through the eyes of Jesus Christ.

With prayers for your families,
Sister Dominic

  • Campus Clean Up: September 21 - If you can join us for an hour or more on Saturday, September 21st, to help beautify and spruce up the school and playground areas, please send your name to ctucker@olmc-school.com.  Children who are able to work are welcome to come, but remain under the supervision of parents.  Some prep work is needed on Friday, Sept 20th (no classes this day) if you would like to help prepare for the cleanup day.  We hope to freshen the paint on the soccer goals and re-net them, freshen paint on the play area, prepare the grounds for mulching, and do general hedge trimming and grounds upkeep.  Two dying trees will be professionally removed from the swingset area the week prior.  An informational email will be sent next week to all who send in their names to Mrs. Tucker.  Thanks for giving your time in this way!
  •  Cornerstone Dinner- We are looking forward to hosting Sister Elizabeth Anne, Director of the Center for Catholic Education at the Dominican Campus in Nashville, as the keynote speaker for the Cornerstone Dinner.  Sister is an engaging speaker with vast experience in Catholic Schools and formation of students at all age levels.  Please RSVP for this dinner by emailing Sister Dominic at principal@olmc-school.com, or by sending your RSVP cards to the front office.  Tickets will also be on sale in the commons after Masses at OLMC Parish the weekend of September 21-22.
  •  Fall Flowers: Pre-Order Today/Pick up September 20th (mums) and October 11th (pansies, etc) - This fundraiser hosted by the parents of the seventh grade supports the eighth grade end-of-ear events including graduation and the reception. Look for the order form in your Wednesday folders to purchase flowers (pansies, fall daisies, cabbage, kale) for your fall gardens.  If you are a parent of a seventh grader and are able to these efforts, please contact Mrs. Julie Nguyen.  To view the  Flower Order Form or Informational Flyer, click on the underlined phrase.
  •  Testing School Reach- All family phone numbers for School Reach Emergency Communication System should have been turned into the front office by last week. We will test the system next week.  If you do not receive a call by Thursday September 19th, with a message from Sister Dominic stating that the system is being tested, you will want to contact Mrs. Hill in the front office to be sure that your phone number is properly entered into the School Reach Emergency Communication System.
  •  Fall Festival: October 18th  - In celebration of the new school year, and of a significant increase in enrollment, OLMC School, and the Home and School, are hosting a Fall Festival on the school grounds on Friday, October 18th. We are looking for a chairperson for this event who can help to coordinate the schedule of activities and the side food items.  Please email ctucker@olmc-school.com if you are interested in chairing this family event.
  •  Bingo Substitutes - If you wish to have your name added to the substitute list for Bingo, please contact Chad Spiller at 897-7601. Chad Spiller keeps a working list of substitutes and would be happy to add your name and call you if/when needed.  The substitutes get paid directly by the family requesting the substitute.
