Thank you to Mr. Patrick Tucker for getting the bushes and shrubs, which frame our building, into shape.  It is quite an art, which he seems to have mastered.  Mr. Tucker is an alumn of OLMC School.

Attention parents and teachers:

If you sponsor an after-school club/activity that meets after dismissal, but before 5:00pm, please contact Mrs. Tucker at 596-2754 for a Request for Use of OLMC Space form to reserve a location.  Contact Mr. Hart Smith at 595-0385 to reserve space for an activity after 5:00pm.

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,

This week, Our Lady's Word begins with a note from our Pastor:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Recently, Pope Francis called upon the world-wide Church to join him this Saturday, September 7, in praying for peace in Syria, the Middle East, and
throughout the world.  In response to our Pope's prayer, we at Our Lady of Mount Carmel will observe a Holy Hour for Peace, beginning at the end of the 5:00 pm Vigil Mass and concluding with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 7:00 pm.  If you cannot come to the Vigil Mass itself, please feel free to come for
all or part of the Holy Hour itself, a time of silent prayer for peace in our world.

In the words of our Holy Father:

"[Let us] gather in prayer and in a spirit of penance, invoking God's great gift of peace upon the beloved nation of Syria and upon each situation of conflict and violence around the world. Humanity needs to see these
gestures of peace and to hear words of hope and peace! I ask all the local churches, in addition to fasting, that they gather to pray for this intention. Let us ask Mary to help us to respond to violence, to conflict and to war, with the power of dialogue, reconciliation and love. She is our mother: may she help us to find peace; all of us are her children! Help us, Mary, to overcome this most difficult moment and to dedicate ourselves each day to building in every situation an authentic culture of encounter and peace. Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us!"

In Christ,

Fr. John David Ramsey
Pastor

A few other items of note:
  • For grades 5-8 we will be able to offer an after-school drama club this year.  An information sheet is coming home in the next week.  If your child is interested, he/she may let Miss Schlask know.
  • The Christian Service Club will be starting up again in September.  Sister Mary Augustine will be coordinating the efforts along with several support staff members.  If you would like to support the efforts in any way, please email Sister at smaugustine@olmc-school.com.
  • Invitations to the Cornerstone Dinner have been sent home for all families.  All are welcome this parish/school dinner.  If you are able to join us on this evening, please send in your RSVPs attention to Sister Dominic, or email your RSVP to principal@olmc-school.com.  If you wish to volunteer for this event, please email Sister Dominic.
  • Volunteer Opportunity for the Family!  We will host a Campus Cleanup at OLMC School and playground on the morning of September 21st, beginning at 7:30 am.  Please contact Mrs. Tucker in the front office if you are able to volunteer on this morning.  She can be reached at ctucker@olmc-school.com.  We hope to complete some significant projects prior to a Fall Festival Picnic which will be the evening of October 18th (save the date).
  • If you wish to have your name added to the substitute list for Bingo, please contact the front office. Chad Spiller keeps this working list of substitutes and would be happy to add your name and call you if/when needed.  The substitutes get paid $50 for working the bingo shift.
  • A family from Hampton is looking for help transporting a middle school student home after school and will help pay for gas.  If you live in this area and may be able to assist, please contact the front office.

With prayers for your families,

Sister Dominic, O.P.
