From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,
I am very pleased to share with you that following the SACS visit last Friday, we "passed" our re-accreditation visit and will maintain continuously our accreditation with SACS Accrediting Agency for our region. This year has been fraught with extra meetings, lots of paperwork and providing evidence for best practices, and truly wonderful discussions about who we are at OLMC and what we are trying to do here. While the year was taxing for our teachers and support staff, it does bring renewed appreciation for one another, each playing a significant role in the education and formation of our children, from cafeteria staff, to the clinic to the classroom, and of course our parents! Thank you for your support as we completed our self-study year, and proudly, we share with you this success in passing our accreditation visit!
With prayers for your families,
Sister Dominic

5th Grade Visit to WTKR Channel 3
On Wednesday May 22nd, Mrs. Bickford and Mrs. Horne traveled to Norfolk to visit WTKR Channel 3 with the students who won the 5th grade auction item. The students spent 2 hours at the TV station and were the guests of Juliette Bickford. She showed the students around the station and explained the workings of the TV station. The 5th graders were able to sit and watch as the newscasters reported the news for the 4 o'clock and 5 o'clock news. They were able to meet the other newscasters and ask questions about their work. Ms. Bickford also took the students to the control room and the news room. She gave them some helpful information in case the students want to become involved in journalism. It was a very enjoyable and educational afternoon and everyone had a great time!

We're pleased to be nearing the end of another great school year at OLMC! To maintain our positive momentum, we ask that you take this 5 Minute Value Survey, which will give us insight into what you liked and where we can improve.
This survey is going out to our Administration, Faculty, Staff, Students, Parents, and community, providing us with a 360 degree view of our school and ensuring that every group we encounter is getting the most out of the experience! All information collected in this survey will remain strictly private, and will only be presented in the aggregate form. If you have any questions about the survey please feel free to reach out to Lewis Carney at lewis.carney@guidingprogress.com. As in previous surveys, we are pleased to offer an out of uniform pass for children of families who complete the survey. Please print or email the last page of the survey and send it to Sister Dominic (principal@olmc-school.com).
The survey will close on May 31, 2013. If you would like to take the survey and earn an out of uniform day for your child(ren), please complete the survey and send in the final page or email Sister Dominic by noon on Friday, May 31st. The out of uniform day will be on Monday, June 3rd.

One of the successful pieces of this implementation last year was providing a period of time for families to select their own nights to work Bingo. Again, this year, we would like to ask you to select two Monday nights (first come first scheduled) between September 2, 2013 and August 31, 2014. If you are a family who receives financial aid from the school, we ask that you sign up for three nights during this same time period. In order to fully staff Bingo, we need a total of 9 floor and 3 kitchen workers per week. Please email Mr. Neil O' Connor at bingo.olmcschool@cavtel.net to sign up for your preferred nights and positions (kitchen or floor) by July 1st. As an incentive, all families that sign up for their bingo nights by July 1st, you will be entered into a drawing for free general fees worth $490! All families who have not emailed Mr. O'Connor about their selected dates by July 1st, will be assigned randomly (floor or kitchen), to fill in the empty positions. For those who do not wish to participate in this commitment, the following are alternatives: - 1) Buyout of the service (limited number of opportunities) at $200/assigned night.
- 2) Swap nights with another family - even exchange.
- 3) Request a substitute (usually a college student) for a $50 stipend, can be paid through the front office.
If your family is experiencing a hardship which make either working Bingo, or paying for a sub or buying out, a burden to your family, please make an appointment with Sister Dominic to discuss alternate ways we can support one another.

New physician orders are required each school year. -Mrs. Gounley, School Nurse 757-596-2754, ext. 215

A Message from the Clinic Plan Ahead for 2013-2014!
Attention Parents of PreK Students!
VA State Law requires that all children have a new physical done prior to the start of kindergarten. Physicals done for PreK are not acceptable for kindergarten. The form can be submitted to school as soon as it is completed, but must be submitted prior to the start of Kindergarten. Please plan ahead if your child has a physical scheduled this spring. Doctor's offices tend to be very busy at the end of summer. Have your doctor complete the State of VA School Entrance Physical Form, which is available on our school website or please call the clinic, and Mrs. Gounley will send one home with your child. __________________________________________
Attention Parents
of 5th Grade Students!
Please make sure that your student has their DPT booster shot prior to the start of 6th grade in August. State law requires that all students be sent home if this record is not on file by the first day of school. The DPT booster is generally given when a child turns 11 years old. If your child has a physical scheduled spring spring or summer, please talk with your doctor regarding any immunizations they may need. Doctor's offices get very busy in August prior to the start of the school year, so please plan ahead. Forms can be turned into the clinic as soon as your child gets the booster shot. Also, please make sure you keep a copy for your own records.
State required immunizations are generally available free at your local health department. For more information, please call the Peninsula Health Department at 757-594-7410, the Hampton Health Department at 757-727-1140 or the Suffolk Health Department at 757-686-4900. __________________________________________
For more information, please visit our website and click on the Parent Life tab. If you have any questions, please call the school clinic at 757-596-2754, ext. 215.
