From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends of OLMC,
Next week we will celebrate the second annual Faith Day at OLMC School with our pastor, Father John David. There are several common themes that have emerged through the study of three selected gospels which give insights into friendship with Jesus, through the relationship He had with Peter. The first two (Luke 5:1-11 and Mt 14:22-33) show Peter growing in a relationship of obedience and trust in the One who has made us for a particular purpose. In the third passage, John 21, Jesus sends Peter out to do this work. It is the passage where Jesus performs another miraculous catch of fish through Peter, and then tests Peter's love for Him: "Do you love me?" Once. Twice. A third time. Once this love is secured, this love which is always a response to something God initiates, there is a mission to do: "Feed my sheep. Tend my lambs. Pastor my sheep." Once we are filled with the love of God, we desire to take it out to the world in whatever way God has gifted us to do. Some do so through beautiful works of mercy, or through preaching and teaching, or through the witness of a poor and chaste life, or through works of service. Each of us is called to this deep and abiding relationship, like Peter had with Jesus, and then are equipped to bear fruit through this relationship. For Peter, it was tending the sheep. This is the great ministry that has been passed on through all the Popes of our history, until today, when Pope Francis I is called to tend, pastor, and feed the flock of the Lord. Let us pray in a special way for one another, but particularly for our children who will be presented with this question from the Lord: "Do you love me?" This day - Faith Day - is packed with many graces which will unfold in our children's and in our school's life this year and in the years to come. I ask you to join us by praying daily a Hail Mary, or a prayer to the Holy Spirit, that we would be free and ready to receive all that the Lord wants to give on that day.
The long-awaited auction will finally take place this Saturday evening at St. Michael Hall. There are so many WONDERFUL packages for the silent and live auction this year. Truly, there is something for everyone. I look forward to seeing many of you there. If you have any raffle tickets left, please return them via the front office to the auction committee, as they will continue to be sold at the auction.
With prayers for your families,
Sister Dominic

Statement by Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo on the bombings at the Boston Marathon
Today, with great sadness and shock at the bombings that took place in Boston on Monday, I call on the people of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond to join in prayer for the people of Boston. With the priests, deacons, religious and all of the faithful of the Diocese, we pray that God will cast His light into this darkness
to bring comfort and healing to the
victims and their families.
The Boston Marathon is an annual tradition that celebrates the strength and endurance of the human body and spirit, as well as a time of family, community and civic pride. This was an act of evil that affected hundreds of people on the scene, as well as their families and friends who love them. We pray for them and for the City of Boston as they work in hope
and in charity to reclaim that spirit.
Pope Francis urged the people of Boston, "Do not be overcome by evil." This is our challenge and our prayer. We must not let this evil act lead us to despair. As we do in times of trouble, and in times of joy, we place our trust in our loving God who saves, and in the peace that Christ alone can bring.
I join my prayer with Pope Francis, Cardinal O'Malley of Boston, all my brother bishops, as well as the people of this Diocese, and indeed the Church throughout the world, in asking for the Lord's healing for those injured by the bombings and solace for their families. We most especially pray for eternal rest for those who lost their lives. May perpetual light shine upon them.
