The National Junior Honor Society is offering free tutoring for students in grades 1-8. Students and tutors meet weekly every Tuesday morning at 7:30am. All students are brought to the middle school to work. Students there for tutoring either bring their own materials (spelling, math books, reading materials, worksheets, etc.). Otherwise, tutors use flashcards and their own intuition to teach students. All students stay until morning prayers are over, and then NJHS volunteers escort them to their classes. Students are often recommended for tutoring by their teachers. If you are interested in having your student tutored on Tuesday mornings, please contact your child's teacher.

From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Friends of OLMC School,
Welcome back to the final stretch of the year! This is perhaps the busiest time of the year which requires extra attention and reading to be sure to be up on all the events that this time of year brings.
I am happy to announce that OLMC School will be hosting a fully licensed summer camp program on campus this year. The week long camps range in theme from science to safari to sports. Descriptions and details are found in this week's Our Lady's Word along with information on registration which will be held this Saturday, April 13th at the Denbigh Community Center and Newport News Parks and Recreation. Registration is required for attendance at one or more of the summer camps.
We are down to the final days of preparation for the annual spring Auction. I would like to express special thanks to Tammy Dessoffy, Julie Nguyen and Juliette Anderson who have been a tireless committee, working throughout the entire year, preparing for this one spectacular night of fun - and one that is so important to the support of the school. As promised in a previous newsletter, I want to announce this year's auction fund-an-item which is designed to promote, upgrade, and increase availability of technology for classroom instruction. This year's fund-an-item is to equip each classroom with iPad instruction accompanied by the AppleTV. This was selected for the excellence of the product specific to education, the versatility and additional flexibility it allows teachers to employ in designing and executing lessons, the increased interactivity and multi-sensory learning that strengthens a child's ability to learn and retain new information and/or difficult concepts, and the specific intention to expose students to both PC and Apple environments prior to graduation from OLMC School. This is simply the next step in the vision and plan for technology at OLMC School and I thank you for any support you are able and willing to give to this project either prior to, at the auction, or following. The community at large has been magnanimous in support of the fund-an-item selections in the past and this has been a wonderful means to build technology in the classroom.
This Thursday, Sister Mary Diana, O.P. (MD) of the Dominican Sisters of Nashville, will be presenting in multiple venues. Attendance at either of her presentations will earn an out of uniform pass for children in the family. The presentations are for adults only. Details are found in today's Our Lady's Word. PLEASE NOTE THE TIMES: Sister Mary Diana will not be able to present at a Coffee with Sister on Friday morning due to flight re-arrangements.
Faith Day is also around the corner. Many have generously offered to help prepare and/or support teachers on the day of Faith Day. We will hold an informational meeting next Wednesday following the 2:00 dismissal for all Faith Day volunteers who are able to attend. Several items will be ready for organization and distribution beginning this Friday. All are welcome!
I am still getting used to the newest English translation used for the Mass and am especially delighted with the phrase "overcome with Paschal joy" which is prayed at each Mass during the Easter season. So in the words of the Church, I pray that you are overcome with Paschal joy this Easter season, and that by keeping your eyes on the victory of Christ over sin and death, you will have increasing hope and joy in Him.
With prayers for your families,
Sister Dominic
