Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends of OLMC,

Before announcing the fund-an-item for the 2013 Auction, Puttin' on the Ritz, I wanted to address the fact that last year's main auction item, namely to level the playing field and add safety and enhancement features to the playground, has not yet come to fruition.  This has been an ongoing project for the Building and Grounds Committee for several years with abundant appropriate research and many eager discussions by the School Board. In the midst of reviewing the field proposals, we were blessed to receive Father John David as our new pastor.  Father brings to OLMC a strong vision of unity of the parish/school, and all its ministries, as an integrated whole.  This has positively affected the way our parish will grow both in its ministries and in the physical campus. This is ultimately good news for us, and in the meantime we are modifying and delaying plans for the field so that we do not invest money into a project now, that will be undone when the larger vision is implemented in its time.  Our generous field fund-an-item donors have been notified about this and will be able to designate those funds as they deem best. At this time, we will move forward with this year's fund-an-item, which will be announced in the coming week or two.  It will be something that directly impacts instruction and learning in every classroom, so all children will benefit.  If you are unable to attend the auction, but still wish to support our fund an item project, the auction team will make sure that you have an opportunity to contribute to the academic wellbeing of our students.

We are in our final days with our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI.  At our next Faith Families meeting on Monday, the students will each receive a card with a Cardinal's name on it and a prayer on the back.  We will dedicate these weeks in Lent to praying for the conclave which will meet to elect the new Holy Father.  We want you to join us in prayer!  In the front office will be additional cards with the names of the Cardinals; you can take one whenever you are at the school.  Remember to pray for their openness to the Holy Spirit so that we receive the Pope that God has prepared to shepherd us through the coming years.

With prayers for your families,
Sister Dominic, O.P.
__________________________________________

OLMC School will be attending the Norfolk Saint Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday March 16th.  As we did last year, we will be taking a bus to Norfolk, which will then serve as our parade float.  Mrs. Thames has been preparing float props for us for several months!  The Sisters will ride down on the bus and accompany the students.  Students in grades 6-8 may ride the bus without an accompanying parent.  Students in grades pre3 through 5th grade are welcome to ride the bus, but we ask that a parent accompany the child.  We will ask a small fee to cover the cost of the bus and driver.  Permission slips are available from Mr. Albert and in the front office.

Please note that on Fridays in Lent, all children in preK-5, and some middle school students, will be at the Church praying Stations of the Cross.  If you know your child will need to leave early on a Friday in Lent, please make sure the front office knows so that the children can be retrieved from the Church with minimal disruption.  Stations are from 2:15-2:45, and all parents and parishioners are welcome to pray with us.  (Note: Stations for this Friday are cancelled due to commitments to Mass and Adoration that day)

Finally, I would like to let you know that Mother Ann Marie, the Major Superior of the Dominican Sisters of Nashville, will be visiting the school and convent from Wednesday February 27th through Saturday morning, March 2nd, along with Sister Mary Louis, the Director of Education for the Congregation. (Mother is the taller of the two if you see them together, and I am sure she would love to greet you if she is visiting the school while you are there).

March 2nd from 6-8pm

You can bring a crock-pot of chili, a decorated cake, or a yummy dessert (or any combination!). All guests get to vote for their favorites. For the chili, to judge them, you get to taste as many as you'd like. For the cakes and desserts, it's basically a beauty contest!

We will also provide hot dogs and drinks so that no one leaves hungry! We are collecting $5 per
family to offset costs. You will get ten tickets to use for voting for your favorites, plus one more to put your name on for the cake raffle.

Folks who plan to bring a crock-pot should "make a reservation" if they need access to electricity so that we can be sure to have enough outlets available. Please send an email to Teresa McGee at tmcgee1995@msn.com indicating desire to bring chili (please put "chili" in subject line) or a cake (please put "cake" in subject line), preferably before February 28. We can also accommodate last minute walk-ins, but we may not be able to provide electricity. Remember to bring a serving spoon!

Drops offs begin at 4:00 pm, judging open from 6 to 7pm. Help is welcome! Please volunteer-hours
count towards school requirements!
