Our Lady of Mount Carmel students scored tremendously higher than their peers and excelled academically. OLMC student's scores were 68% higher than the National average!

Catholic Schools Week Success!

Last week OLMC participated in the National celebration of Catholic education. It was a week of extraordinary festivities at OLMC from concerts, assemblies, athletic and school competitions, themed dress days, service projects and the first annual OLMC Spirit parade. The school and the parish came together in a wonderful way to support Catholic Schools Week and joyously celebrated being a parish school. The week's events proved successful and truly increased our love and pride for OLMC! One student said, "This was the best week ever! Every day at school was so much fun and I really looked forward to the day's events. It made me proud to be a student in a Catholic School. I loved how everyone worked together and the whole school showed school spirit. I am already looking forward to next year!"

For more pictures of the OLMC Spirit Parade, please visit our Facebook page.

I want to see parade pictures!

Annual School Auction!

Save the date for the event of the year!
A silent auction, a live auction and an evening of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and dinner will take place in Saint Michael Hall on April 20, 2013.

Please continue to donate to the auction. What should you donate? Please look at the display in the lobby at the school for ways that you can give to the gala. On the office windows, you will find a display of top hats. Each hat features a donation idea! Please remove the hat from the glass and purchase that item. Then turn your donation in, along with the donor form.

The school auction is a wonderful way to raise money for our school to benefit our students.
It's also a great way to get involved and meet people. The Spring Auction is a tremendous fundraiser for OLMC School and an event that embraces school-wide participation.

The evening is sure to be full of donations, dining, fundraising, and fellowship! Let the fun begin!

If you have questions, please contact

Tammy (757-593-3621) or

Julie (757-876-7209).

Manna Cards Help Reduce Tuition Costs!

Manna sales are up, and many families are sure to see a reduction on their tuition costs near the end of this school year. When Manna cards are purchased a portion of the sale goes back to the family and helps aid in the reduction of tuition. Many savvy families have been creative in finding ways to reduce costs, by simply purchasing gift cards for stores that they already shop at. One OLMC parent, Karen Domzal, has been extremely successful when it comes to this opportunity. Last year Mrs. Domzal saved hundreds of dollars on tuition by simply purchasing gift cards for her favorite stores like Food Lion, Target, TJ Maxx, and Starbucks. Mrs. Domzal said, "I make sure I never run out of Food Lion cards. And if we are doing a big project around the house I try to get Lowes cards. I think of it this way, every little bit helps, even if I only save pennies, that is still money that I didn't have yesterday."

If you are interested in purchasing Manna cards to help save on your tuition bill, please visit the Manna Sales table on Tuesday afternoons. Volunteers are always present at afternoon carpool and can assist with the purchase of these cards. The gift cards retain their full value, yet a portion still goes to help the church and reduce the cost of your tuition. Manna order forms can be found on Edline under the Parent Life tab.

Grant Writing Committee

We are looking for a few volunteers to join the

OLMC Grant Writing Committee.

Grants can be powerful instruments to enhance the assets of OLMC School programs. By creating new funding means for programs, grant committees deepen existing programs and add enriching activities to the curriculum.  The grant committee meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm.  Location TBD.  The committee is active and in need of volunteers to assist with grant research, being grant writers, committee and school liaisons (gather information needed from the school), and grant editors and follow-up helpers.  Please email if interested,  Kristen.glauner@theboshgroup.com.

PORT Service Project

We are looking forward to our February service project where we will be assisting PORT! The homeless are given a hot breakfast and dinner while they are at St. Michael Hall. During the day, they are on their own. Therefore, the Christian Service Club will be making bagged lunches for the homeless to take with them while they are out during the day.

We are doing a school-wide collection and are asking for donations of snacks and drinks that can go into their lunch bags. The club will be making about 100 bags!

Additionally, it was brought to our attention that the people supported by PORT are in great need of socks,

underwear, t-shirts, and long johns. Mostly men's items are needed, size large and up. There are also women in need and sizes medium and up are suggested. They are looking for donations in clean and good condition. The trouble they are having with the weather being so wet is that the PORT guests are coming into the shelter with wet clothing and socks from being outside all day. The shelters don't have anything to give them that is clean and dry, so the homeless are remaining wet and cold through the night. If you are able to donate, please know that you will truly brighten the day of these people that truly need our help.

Suggested List of Donations:

-Bottled Water

-Juice Boxes

-Sodas

-Socks

-Underwear

-Long johns

-T-shirts

-Bagged snacks

-Bags of chips, Doritos, pretzels, ect.

-Crackers

-Any non-perishable item that would go into a lunch bag

-Monetary donations will also be accepted. Cash and checks should be labeled "PORT Project"

If you are able to donate anything, please send the items into school. Please send them to the attention of Mrs. Dugan, or you are welcome to label them and bring them into the Front Office. Please turn in all donations by February 7th.
