From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends of OLMC School,
Wet, wintry greetings to you! Please check your email and voicemails in the morning, or the news stations, in case the predicted inches become a reality by morning carpool.
We are looking forward to Catholic Schools Week at the end of the month, kicked off with the Italian Dinner and Talent show on the evening of February 25th. There will be out of uniform opportunities ahead:
1) Children who attend any weekend OLMC Mass in their Mass day uniform the weekend of 1/26-1/27 will receive an OOU pass in the commons. Those who attend other churches can have their picture taken at church and shown to the front office to receive a pass. Children must be in Mass uniform to receive the pass.
2) We are pleased on Monday January 28th to host the Blue Aces - a band from Langley AFB. They will perform for the school at an assembly in the afternoon. Parents are encouraged to attend. Students may dress in red, white, blue to show patriotic spirit this day.
A few teachers have offered to sponsor the chess club again, which has been a popular after-school club in past years. More information will be given in school and in future OLWs.
A final word comes from one of my heroes, Pope Benedict XVI. I recently read an article which was the transcription of one of his homilies or addresses over the Christmas break. The line which has stayed with me is: "If you are not giving God, you are giving too little." This is an amazing and profound statement on many levels - Christians indeed have the power to give God! Our calling is far above what we imagine it to be; we sell ourselves, our children, and our neighbors short (not to mention God Himself) far too often. I think especially of our common mission to educate the children in our care - you as parents, we as educators. We can give them all the information and tools for thinking, and even those skills of getting along well in the sandbox and being strong collaborators, but it is not our love that makes us whole, but God's and our sharing in it. It's a good examination - what am I giving my spouse, my friends, my co-workers, but especially my children, if I am not giving God, why? Do I have Him (or better, does He have me)? Do I believe that He is the greatest gift I can give my children? Let's be sure that it is WE who are answering these questions for our lives, and not allowing society, media, or even my dear circle of friends, to determine how I am going to live, and Who I am going to give.
With prayers for your families,
Sister Dominic
