Do You Hear What I Hear?

Greetings!

Hearing the timeless Christmas Carol thrust me to reflect on the many images we so profoundly witness as part of this 2012 Advent season. Politicians acting like children (Christ said child-like not childish, right?) and talk of fiscal cliffs, innocent children gunned down at their school in the "safest of neighborhoods" and the highest incidents of car thefts in years. We question the sanctity of life from the most innocent to the most elderly. But, DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?

I see the best that man can be. A Community of Believers and Achievers that refused to let others write the history of their school. YOU sacrificed, you acted and TOGETHER we have a great chance to be a premier school!

I see young adolescence/adults seeing the great potential in themselves and fully trusting those of us that diligently guide their thoughts during these critical learning years. I see students pulling together to achieve excellence in the classroom, on the ball field and within social circles. I see ladies and gentlemen preparing to change a very challenged world that seems to know less and less about God. I see a kind gesture, a bright smile, a genuine hello, a ring that means "women power" and a green that bleeds through skin. So, DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?

I see the same hope for the world that the Wise Men saw more than 2000 years ago. Isaiah 9:6, For to us a child is born, to us a son is given: and the government shall be on his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. It is He who is our guiding light at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School. It is He that WE follow in bringing Joy to this World... and I have just the kids who can do it. Come and see.

Merry Christmas and Every Blessing to you and yours in 2013!

Admissions

Lauren Purcell '07 and Steve Clement '06 are the Directors of Admissions. They, along with their wonderful team of Sister Anne Christine Kalbron '61, Charlie Wieners, Pat Lightare doing a FANTASTIC job recruiting new students and supporting the current students.  This year has been filled with energy from this team from day one.  So, it was no surprise that Admissions WON the decorating contest for "Best Office"!

Admissions Office  Here's an update:

We currently have 75 students registered for the class of 2017, 42 boys and 33 girls.  The scholarship results are in and we selected the top 40 students to move to the next round. We will be conducting interviews in February.   St. Dorothy's had the most students finish in the top 40.

E-Cycling

Here on the Bonner & Prendie Campus, we are always looking for better ways to serve our community AND raise some money.  E-Cycling helps us do both!  Father Olson brought this one to the table, and English Department Chair, Mrs. Linda Toner immediately responded to take this project and run with it.  Science teacher, Mr. Ray Anger, has signed on to help as well.  So what is E-Cycling...it's recycling but of electronics.

Electronics contain a number of hazardous materials that, when improperly disposed of, create an environmental hazard. Some of the benefits of proper recycling include:

  • Reduction of environmental liability.
  • Conservation of valuable resources, namely precious metals, copper, steel, aluminum, plastic.
  • Saves valuable landfill space.
  • Reduces lead emissions from incinerators, thus helping to reduce air pollution.
  • Helps companies meet their recycling mandates.

We celebrated National E-Cycling Day on November 15th and we received many donations.  We are going to continue to have a series or "mini" events leading up to the "BIG" Event on April 27th! Please, consider dropping anything off with a plug at Bonner & Prendie on any of the following dates.
