BSS to Sponsor Burlington Recreation & Parks Biddy League Basketball Team
There is great interest in a BSS Burlington Recreation and Parks Biddy League Basketball team this winter. Players must be five years old by February 19, 2017 and not 7 before August 1, 2016.  This will be a co-ed team open to BSS and non BSS students.

Please email Tara Hackman at [email protected] if your child is interested and/or if you are willing to coach a team by Monday, September 26th.  If there are enough players we can have more than one team if needed. On the evening of the 26th I'll email everyone with registration directions so you know what to ask for when contacting Burlington R&P.

Note-BSS will still have our YMCA teams for grades 2nd-4th.  Stay tuned for details!

Middle School Mash Up Thanks from Bishop McGuinness
We would like to thank the Blessed Sacrament students who came out for the Bishop McGuinness Middle School Mash Up. We had over 200 middle school students from across the Triad attend the Mash Up! Next year, we will expand the event to serve larger numbers of students. This will also include a parent tent at the Parking Lot Party representing each Catholic middle school. We will also have more food trucks. Thank you for helping us celebrate our Bishop Homecoming!

We hope to see you at our Open House on November 9th at 9am and 7pm.

Middle School in need!
Please consider a donation of cards and card games to our middle school for indoor recess.  These sets do not need to be new but we do ask that they contain a full deck.  Thank you!

Middle School Art Supply List-thank you!
Mrs. Toland would like to express her thanks and appreciation for all of the donations to the Middle School Art program!  It makes a huge difference knowing she has what she needs for class.
There is one last request and that is the 12 pieces of PVC tubing (any diameter less than 3 inches is fine) cut into 12 inch lengths.

Immaculata School Presents SCREENAGERS
Friday, September 23rd at 6:30 p.m.
We are thrilled to present SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age, a documentary about the biggest parenting issue of our time.
Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span?  Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids and began a quest to uncover how it might impact their development. As with her other two award-winning documentaries on mental health, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.

Fall Conferences
Conferences are Wednesday, November 9 from 4:00p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Thursday, November 10 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. with your child's teacher(s).  A parent must attend the conference in order to pick up your child's report card.

Please choose a time on this sign up that works with your schedule.  Preschool-4th grade conferences will be in the classroom and middle school conferences will be held in the second floor library.

Classroom Connections
Nobel Prize Winner to speak at Blessed Sacrament School
Renowned Scientist Dr. Oliver Smithies will speak to middle school students  on Friday, September 23rd from 1:20 p.m. until 2:05 p.m. in our multi-purpose room.  All are invited to hear Dr. Smithies speak about his research and accomplishments.

Oliver Smithies,  is a British-born American scientist who, with Mario R. Capecchi and Sir Martin J. Evans, won the 2007 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for developing gene targeting, a technology used to create animal models of human diseases in mice. While researching gene therapy as a method for treating hereditary diseases, Smithies uncovered the work that Evans had been doing on the embryonic stem cells of mice. Using a sample obtained from Evans, he demonstrated that targeted removal or alteration of genes within the stem cells allowed for the controlled manipulation of the mouse genome. In 1991 Smithies created a "knockout mouse"-so named because one of its genes had been experimentally replaced or "knocked out"-that accurately modeled human cystic fibrosis.

Dr. Smithies is continuing his research to this day at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
