Knight News
|
Thank you Mrs. Betsy Sioussat for all of your fantastic back to school photos! Our website and marketing materials would not be the same without you. To view and purchase pictures of your children please visit Stxpix.smugmug.com. We appreciate your support of the Knights!!
Bike to School
We love to see our families biking to BSS! Note that our bike rack has moved to the side of the building closest to the Little Knights playground (if you are facing the front door, the left side of the building). Bikes parked at your own risk and we encourage locks. Thank you to Mrs. Jennifer Klein for painting our bike rack royal blue!
Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
Morning Drop Off: This year two parent volunteers, Mr. Felix Cartas, Mrs. Nora Kafir, and Ms. Mariela Cruz, join Coach Eggleston out front to assist with student drop off. Please remember that students are only to exit the car on the right side. Car doors must not open into the street as it is not safe for students to exit the car this way since a car may be passing you on the left.
Students are not to be dropped off at the sidewalk in the school parking lot. If you enter the parking lot it is to park and accompany your student into the building. Any other student drop off must take place at the front sidewalk with the adults.
Afternoon Pick Up: Our faculty and staff work to ensure that afternoon pick up moves as smoothly, safely, and quickly as possible. In order for this to be possible, we ask the following:
1. ALL cars must have a car sign in place on the rear view mirror. Car signs were distributed at Unpack and Peek or sent home the first day if you did not attend Unpack and Peek.
2. Students may no longer be picked up at the dismissal door. If you and your child are walking home please stand out at the front side walk in eyesight of the faculty member at the dismissal door.
No cars will exit the parking lot on to Hillcrest Avenue until the dismissal line is complete. Thank you for assisting us with these safety concerns!
Monday Morning Coffee
Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of BSS meet us for coffee Monday mornings at The Blend! Join us beginning at 7:30 a.m. for a complimentary small coffee and conversation.
Each week is sponsored by one of our BSS Corporate Sponsors. Monday Morning Coffee begins Monday, September 12th. The Blend is located in downtown Burlington at 127 E. Front Street, Burlington.
Cards anyone?
Please consider a donation of cards and card games to our middle school for indoor recess. These sets do not need to be new but we do ask that they contain a full deck. Thank you!

Immaculata School Presents SCREENAGERS
We are thrilled to present SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age, a documentary about the biggest parenting issue of our time.
Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids and began a quest to uncover how it might impact their development. As with her other two award-winning documentaries on mental health, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.

Dear BSS Families,
With just one week into school, BSS has jumped right into school life. Last Friday, our MS had their annual retreat stressing the importance of making their mark and never giving up. Then on Saturday we had our first Volleyball games. We began the week with Cross Country and just today we are playing our first soccer match. All of these great activities in just seven days! What a wonderful way to start the 2016-2017 school year. Keep spreading the word about our awesome school! Mrs. Gomez Proctors Needed If you have some time and will like to help proctor the 3rd and 4th grade classes during our Iowa Assessments from September 26-29, please contact Mrs. Gomez. Please remember you cannot proctor your child's class. Thank you for volunteering!
