Summer Office Hours
Summer office hours begin June 6th and end August 16th.  During this time the school office is open from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Hello Parents!
It is already May and Field Day 2016 is quickly approaching! I am looking for volunteers to help out with set up, supervision, and take down at Field Day on May 24th. If you are able to help, please email me at ceggleston@bssknights.org and I will find a place for you! Thank you for your support of BSS and our annual Field Day!

Student Council Election Details
Student Council officers must:
1. Maintain a "B" average in schoolwork.
2. Follow the rules and regulations of the school.
3. Be a role model for others in scholarship and behavior.
4. Be willing to take an active part in decision-making.
5. Be willing to accept responsibility for accomplishment of jobs decided upon by the council.

When campaigning, candidates must adhere to the following rules:
1. No more than four posters or banners.
2. Posters may be no longer than standard poster board.
3. Banners may be no larger than those printed on standard computer paper.
4. No bribes for votes, such as candy, pennies, etc.
5. No derogatory remarks about opposing candidates.
6. No campaign promises that cannot be kept, such as banning uniforms.

Candidates may select a campaign manager from anyone in 4th-8th grades.

Candidates and their managers will make a short speech to students in grades 4 to 8.  These speeches need to be approved by Mrs. Kearney by Monday, May 16th.  

Voting will be by secret ballot in grades 4-7.  Mrs. Kearney will supervise the counting of ballots.

Time Line for Elections
1. By Thursday, May 5th-Declare the office you are pursuing and select your campaign manager.  Notify Mrs. Kearney in writing by 12:00 noon.

2. Monday, May 9th through Thursday, May 13th-Campaign Week

3. Wednesday, May 18th-Speeches will be presented to grades 4-8 after flag raising.

4. Wednesday, May 18th-Voting by grades 4-7 will take will take place after the speeches.  

5. Winners will be announced at the end of the Election Day.  ALL CAMPAIGN POSTERS MUST BE REMOVED BY THE END OF THE DAY, Wednesday, May 18th.

Dear Parents,

Last night's Spring Sing Show wonderful! Each class sang their hearts out, and all were great performers.  A big thank you to Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Spradlin for always bringing out the best in our students.  It was an enchanting evening for all.

Father Paul will be treating the students to pizza on Wednesday, May 18. Yum!
 
2nd Collection at Masses
The last 2nd collection for the 2015-2016 school year will this weekend of May 14-15. Students will be lectors, ushers, and be part of the offertory procession.   We are asking the students to wear their uniforms to Mass.

Our faculty is actively preparing summer reading selections.  Watch the May 18th Knight Chronicle for summer reading assignments.

Please contact the Admissions Office if you are willing to serve as host or hostess this summer for a class play date or movie night!  This play date can be at the school playground or a local park and the movie night at BSS.  I'll provide the snack and beverages if you'll serve as the friendly and welcoming face of the event!  I'm looking for hosts or hostesses for preschool through third grade lay dates and 4th grade through 8th grade movie nights.  Email thackman@bssknights.org for questions or to set a date!

Bishop McGuinness Basketball Camp
Each summer Coach Josh Thompson and the Bishop McGuinness Basketball Program host their annual basketball camps. Coach Thompson is a State Championship winning and USA Youth Basketball certified coach and has been running camps for over 12 years. 

The goals of Bishop Basketball camps are that each camper leaves a better player (IMPROVE) and enjoys himself throughout the week (HAVE FUN). Camp is open to any boy in grades (rising) 3rd-8th. Cost is $150 and camp runs Monday-Friday from 9 AM- 2 PM daily.

Stay Alert PoochPad Basketball Jamboree to Feature Many PECSAA Players
The Stay Alert PoochPad Basketball Tournament at Bishop McGuinness Catholic HS May 15 will feature many 5th and 6th grade basketball players from St. Pius X, Our Lady of Mercy, St. Leo's, Immaculate Heart of Mary, and Blessed Sacrament.  The tournament includes The NC Spartans, The Gate City Warriors, The Twin City Jazz,  Paul Brown Academy and others.  The tournament will take place from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 15.  All proceeds will go to the Bishop McGuinness Villains Booster Club.  Concessions is available as well.  For questions about the tournament schedule email Jeff Stoller at js@bmhs.us.

BSS fifth grader Luke Andress will compete in the tournament with the NC Spartans AAU team.

Free Homework Help at May Memorial Library
Mondays 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Does your child need help with homework?  Volunteers from Elon University will be at the May Memorial Library on Monday nights to help children with homework.  Children 11 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult in the library.
