A Note from Mrs. Sebastian about the Rewards of Play
The rewards of play.  I thought this was really amazing.  The problem Nathan solved was one I had recognized, but never solved.

In class today, we built a barometer as part of the Atmosphere Cell in 6th grade.  The barometer we make is difficult to read and the air pressure differences are hard to measure because the rise and fall of the water in the inverted test tube is very small.

A group finished early and asked what they should do next and I told them to "play" with the barometer.  In previous years this resulted in students figuring out how to pump so much air into the barometer that the top popped off.

Today, Nathan Amyot simply slipped a 15 ml falcon tube inside the inverted test tube. Now the water rises and falls in the much smaller space between the falcon tube and the test tube.  The rise and fall of the water is much more dramatic and easier to see.  A real improvement to the lab that I will incorporate from now on!

Our Little Knights are Blasting Off!
