From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents,

As I am writing this I am watching the 2nd Grade learning how to hit the tennis ball with the racquet in PE class.  What a great way to teach coordination. In this day where PE and recess is cut due to testing, I am so grateful that the students at BSS have the opportunity to run and play.  According to some studies it has been proven that exercise can help students learn and remember.

Inclement Weather

Just a reminder that if you change your phone number that you let the office know of the change.  It's that time of year in NC!

Annual Auction Excitement

80 Years of Magic

We are excited about our upcoming "80 Years of Magic" event on January 23rd at the Ramada Inn Conference Center. Why do we have the auction? This is our largest fundraiser at BSS and the funds received are used to offset the costs of programs, activities and general operating expenses at BSS. Every year the cost of education rises but we have been able to contain our tuition cost at the same level due to the success of our Annual Auction.

We trust you will review our website; click on Events and Annual Gala Auction to provide more information about this major fundraising event for BSS.

For our new parents and donors we are excited about this event but have questions regarding options, we are providing some FAQs.

Cost of tickets? $35 for an individual or $60 for a couple

What is included in the cost of a ticket? Dinner is prepared by Western Steak House and includes an open bar. Enjoy the excitement of bidding on items in our silent and live auctions with other fun activities to make an enjoyable night.  A DJ will provide music to dance with your favorite partner after the auction.

What is the "tuition free" raffle? The purchase of a $50 raffle ticket enters you to win the 2015-2016 school year" free tuition" for one student. We do suggest you check our website to review the 'terms and conditions' for the raffle. Tickets are currently on sale at BSS and a table will be setup after most Mass services in the Gathering Place.

What is the Maurice and Ann Koury Academic Scholarship? Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Koury have been extremely involved in the life of BSS and have provided their resources to enable us to provide so many programs and activities. In honor of the Kourys and to acknowledge their generous support, BSS will establish a scholarship in their name to benefit deserving need-based students to experience a BSS education from donations of families and friends.

What is the Great Wolf Lodge raffle? One of our favorite raffles is GWL. It includes lodging and activities for a family of 4 at GWL, plus a $250 GWL gift card that can be used for an additional night's stay or food while at GWL. Tickets will go on sale beginning Monday, January 12 prior to  our morning assembly and the winner will be drawn on January 26 during our morning assembly.

What is sponsor a teacher? The funds are used to offset the cost of dinner for faculty and staff.

Can I pay at the door for the event? Absolutely, however, it is very helpful if you will RSVP that you are attending so we will have the necessary food to accommodate our guests.

We sincerely hope you will join us on January 23 for our 80 Years of Magic event and welcome your questions by calling Jimma Causey, Director of Advancement, or email at [email protected].

See you January 23, 2015!!

SCRIP/Vendor Cards for Sale!

What are SCRIP/Vendor Cards?

  • o   The term Scrip / Vendor cards are used to describe vendor cards that the school purchases at a discount and sells to you at face value for a profit.
  • o   The discount percent range varies for each store but the difference in price is kept by BSS and goes toward fundraising for things like school technology.

Why should I buy SCRIP/Vendor Cards?

  • o   The profits from this program make up an important part of our fundraising budget.
  • o    It is a great way to help BSS earn fundraising dollars and not spend an extra dime.

Where can I buy these Vendor Cards?

  • o   In the school office any day during office hours.
  • o   All and special orders may be placed on this form and sent in with your child's folder.
  • o   Some mornings before school in the After School Room.
  • o   After some of the weekend Masses at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Check the bulletin and Knight Chronicle for dates.
