COMMUNITY GROUP HIGHLIGHT: RMIA

This week we'd like to say hello and thank you to RMIA, the Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association. The group, founded in 1914, was established to celebrate and improve historic Ravenswood Manor, which is located along the north branch of the Chicago River and surrounds the Francisco stop on the CTA Brown line.

Plans are underway for RMIA's 100th anniversary. Join their semi-annual meeting tonight, Wednesday, October 9th, at 7:30pm at Urban Homes (4668 N. Manor) to find out what RMIA's next 100 years looks like.

Learn more about RMIA events, goals, and volunteer opportunities on their website.

SAFETY REMINDER: Graffiti

Our office does daily sweeps of the neighborhood, documents graffii, and removes tagging as we see it. Together, we can stay on top of it and discourage future tagging.

It's important that the police know about all incidents of tagging so that they can monitor gang activity.

Here's what to do if YOU find graffiti:
  • Take a photo and email it to the police at the 17th Police District: CAPS.017District@chicagopolice.org
  • If you can remove the graffiti, please do so.
  • If you're not able to remove the graffiti, let our office know so we can remove it or report it to the City's Graffiti Blasters.
  • We will also be working with owners of frequently tagged buildings to make their properties less likely targets of tagging. This can be done with security cameras, motion-sensor lighting, and other measures.
Thanks for everything you do to keep our ward beautiful and safe.
PREPARING FOR FALL: Leaf Disposal

The changing leaves on the tree are beautiful, but the ones that fall into our yards are another matter.
  • Please do not not to sweep leaves into the street, as they clog drains and cause flooding and street & yard damage.
  • Instead, discard of leaves and other yard debris by bagging it and placing it in or near your garbage cans for pick-up.
Thanks to Pat Ruch for reminding us of this issue!
