Three Million Wisconsin Health Care Consumers Say
"Thank You"

By Joe Kachelski, CEO of WISHIN

At WISHIN, it seems as though we are continually focused on what's next:  Which health care organization will be the next to connect to WISHIN?  Which interface will be next for an existing participant?  Which organization will be next to go live with its end users?

But it is useful and necessary to occasionally pause, look around, and consider how far Wisconsin has come in the quest to achieve true interoperability of electronic health care records.

There are many ways to measure this progress, but perhaps the most salient measure is that the WISHIN Pulse community health record now contains clinical information from more than 3 million Wisconsin residents.  That's more than 50 percent of the state's population, and the number is growing every month.

This kind of progress has been possible only because dozens of health care organizations around the state share WISHIN's vision of a comprehensive statewide health information network.  They see strategic benefit in an independent, vendor-agnostic health information exchange (HIE) utility.  And they see value and convenience in being able to "outsource" to WISHIN the burden of connecting to the eHealth Exchange (important under Meaningful Use to get credit for exchanging electronic care summaries).
Those organizations -from our first client, Watertown Regional Medical Center, to our most recent, Independent Physicians Network - have all played an important role in making a statewide health information network a reality, and they deserve our thanks.

So, as WISHIN planned the launch of a redesigned Web site, we placed a priority on recognizing our participating organizations for their vision and leadership.  I encourage you to check out the new Web site when it is launched later this month, and to join me in thanking all WISHIN participants for doing their part to advance interoperability in Wisconsin.
