THE HOT SEAT
October 29, 2012, University of Wyoming
We had reinforcements today. I do not give orders to "stand down" on the campus battlefield; we believe in staying on the attack and continuously firing the Word at the enemies of God.

The guy with the nasty sign helped us draw a crowd on a chilly day.

Pastor Manny from Victory World Outreach in Cheyenne joined us with several members of his congregation. Late in the afternoon Gunnar Diekmann and his family arrived on their way back to Wisconsin from California. A local preacher, Todd, also came out today. I started the meeting and was only able to get a few to stop. One fellow had questions about Buddhism. I turned the meeting over to Sister Pat after I had preached 25 minutes.
Within 30 minutes a degenerate, who identified himself as an Irish Catholic, came out holding a large sign which read, "F*** this Guy." I knew that he would draw a crowd. Soon Pat had about a dozen who were interacting with her. Pastor Manny, who is an ex-con and "gang-banger," who spent 12 years in prison, interrupted Pat to boldly witness to the students. I was happy to see him eager to engage the students. By the time Sister Cindy preached the crowd became excited and unruly. By 1 PM there were 8-10 students holding protest signs. Some were dressed as pirates. The pirate thing was popular among the atheists several years ago but this is the first time I have encountered the pirate charade over the last year or so.
The protesting pirates arrive on the scene.

The atheists were boisterous and distractive as I taught on the rules of Biblical interpretation. During my third stint, I mostly ignored the atheists as they were not interested in serious dialogue.   Later, I called upon Pastor Manny. And he stood up for the faith against the contentious students for forty minutes.

Pastor Manny, full of the Holy Ghost, preached on campus for the first time.

UW crowd is at the wild stage.  Bro. Jed holds his ground.

Since the crowd was wild and inattentive, Cindy set up the judgment seat, which had a calming effect. Several students were eager to get judged. Cindy told the students, "I am only doing a preliminary judgment to prepare you for the final judgment.   First of all, I want to make clear that just because Will has thumb tacks in his ears it does not mean he is a homosexual. First question, Do you ever get drunk?"
     "Yes, often," Will replied.
     "Are you a virgin?"
     "No," he answered.
    "Are you married?"
     "No," he answered.
"Then that would make you a fornicator," Cindy concluded.
"I do not fornicate enough," he sighed.
"Do you look at pornography on the internet?"
    "Yes," he confessed.
"OK girls, pervert alert; we have a porno pervert here; Don't go out with this guy. Get a magic marker and put black PP for porno pervert on his forehead, so no girl will go out with him. Now girls he is cute [Will liked that judgment], but a lot of cute guys are losers."
Final question, "Is Jesus your Lord and Savior?"
"I am not sure," he answered.
"That settles it; you are going to Hell," Cindy judged.
This is Will sitting in Sister Cindy's judgment chair. It is a preliminary judgment to get him prepared for the Great White Throne.  This always calms the students.

It is amazing how many students want to sit in the judgment seat.   They like the attention.   Usually their own parents will not even judge them. Teachers no longer consider judging character. Youth need to be judged. We all need to judge ourselves in the light of the Bible.   After Cindy judged, I judged two students, one was a lesbian. I examined her for how she became a lesbian; I tried to convince her that she was not born that way, reading from Romans 1.

This Christian sat on the rock by himself waiting for someone who wanted to hear about God's love.

Later Will approached Cindy on the sidelines and asked, "Why did you judge me for drinking a glass of beer?"
"You said you did more than drink a glass; you confessed that you got drunk often. The Bible says drunkards will not inherit the Kingdom of God."
"That right," some girls said, who were listening to the conversation.
"I am willing to take my chances on Hell in order to have a good time now, Will countered."
"You are liable to end up with an STD and pass it on to your children, Cindy warned."
     "That's right," the girls responded.
Cindy deeply pressed in the sword on Will concerning the terrible consequences of his sin. With each warning, the girls chimed in, "She is really hitting home now." They also repeatedly said of Cindy's judgments, "That makes sense."   Cindy was astounded to hear the girls agreeing with her.
"We left campus about 4:15 with Gunnar still teaching a group of 20 or so and Todd was speaking to others.
The campus preacher must be animated!

Sideline conversations bear much fruit!

HOLDING OFF THE PIRATES
Colorado State University, October 30, 2012
At 10:15 AM I received a text message, "Hey Brother Jed, "There's a group of us here at CSU, who can't wait to hear you preach. Do you have an estimate of what time you'll be out here?"   I figured that it was a group of protesting atheists and homosexuals.
A couple of the pirate protesters who greeted us at CSU.

We arrived on campus shortly after noon. Bro Cope had already started the meeting and had about 100 listening. The group was dressed as pirates and in other strange costumes. They were harassing Bro by doing such things as forming a train and following his every move. At 12:30 Bro turned the meeting over to me.                   Immediately, the group surrounded me attempting to annoy me. One tall female pirate read from a book to prevent the crowd from hearing my message. I determined not to play their game. I walked out of the inner circle to leave them to carry on their antics. The atheists have nothing to say and the multitude soon became bored with their pranks and began to disperse.
Mockers form a train to mimic Bro Cope's preaching.

We decided to have speakers at different locations. The atheists did not have enough numbers to cover us all.   Robert and Sherry Pruitt were already working the sidelines holding signs and talking to students. Bro started exhorting students sitting on a wall. Cindy roamed outrunning the atheists who followed her every move. Cindy had most of the attention. Gunnar and Mary Diekman and Sister Pat were also witnessing.
After almost an hour, I secured the free speech tree stump and started preaching.   The stump gave me about two foot elevation. It was somewhat of a precarious position because it made me a target to be pushed off the stump. But it gave me the height advantage. Meanwhile, the police had also arrived to monitor the situation.
There were many in the crowd who confessed to being on brain drugs. I told them their problem was not in their brains, but in their minds.   Sin and guilt and lack of faith, hope and love results in depression and all kinds of mental disorders. I said, "You need to repent and come into a relationship with Jesus Christ who will give you a peace that passes all understanding. This peace of God will keep your heart and minds."-Phil 4:19. They were very agitated when Cindy and I refuted their chemical imbalance of the brain theory which they have been told causes their problems.
Bro's first hour of preaching drew one of the biggest crowds of the year.

On the sidelines Cindy had an hour of ministering to "Jerry."   He first approached her protesting our message of holiness. He claimed to be a Christian but argued that Christians are bound to sin.   Cindy was suspicious after he referred to Samson several times. She asked, "Do you have a lust problem?"
"You have no right to get into my personal life," he argued.
Cindy was not deterred, "Do you look at pornography?"
Suddenly, he burst into tears. He admitted that he was in bondage to porn. Cindy ended up praying with him. He said all the right things in his prayer of repentance.   Hopefully, he is delivered.
Sherry Pruitt, from Michigan had a small group of seekers on the sideline all afternoon.
The president of "Leaders in Free Thought" invited me to speak at 7 PM in a classroom at Eddy Hall. The classroom was filled with secularists including many of the pirates who harassed us in the afternoon. I lectured for 30 minutes on the four questions. Usually, when I speak to groups in this venue they are civil.   However, there were moments when things got heated. I had 90 minutes of Q&A. A communications professor inquired why I had such a different presentation in the classroom than outside. She was satisfied with my explanation. At the end about half of the students thanked me for coming and several commended my presentation.
Hecklers crowd Bro. Jed as he preaches form the tree stump.
Bro. Robert Pruitt, a disciple of Bill McMillan, and his wife Sherry drove from Michigan to minister with us on Colorado campuses.

In a sideline conversation, Sis. Cindy calls out "Jerry" for his pornography addiction.

Near the end of the day, many of the hecklers surrounded Bro. Gunnar who is a mighty match for the atheists.

A LASTING IMPRESSION
October 31, 2012, Colorado State University
Robert Pruitt had already been preaching for two hours when we arrived. I took my stand on the stump about 12:45. The students were rowdy. Some of the pirates from yesterday were out again today.   Many students were dressed for Halloween; they are scary enough looking even when they are not in costume.   Atheists are dangerous people.
The atmosphere was both frivolous and decadent because of the Halloween celebration.
I like to think of our spectacle to be "the greatest show on earth." There was so much commotion that it was difficult to do much in depth teaching in the main circle of our circus. However, in other circles on the plaza; the performers in our road show were having thoughtful conversation with those who appeared to be serious truth seekers.
More devils appear!
Gunnar Diekman called me early in the morning and said he was returning from a five hour drive from North Platte, NE. He was convinced that the Lord wanted him to make the five hour drive back to Fort Collins after preaching here yesterday. Gunnar never took center circle today but he constantly had a group of seekers surrounding him.
Darwin's Animals!
Even in the main circle there were times when students quieted down to listen. One of these times was when a student handed me a note. That always gains attention. I called for silence as I read the note aloud. I expected it to be the usual critique of me being too judgmental and showing a lack of love with a Bible verse or two included.

Dan said that Bro. Jed made a lasting impression on him when he heard him preach at the University of Wisconsin in 1976.

I read, "Dear Messenger: As I stand and listen to the bickering. I commend you for what you are doing, and say Bravo.   It takes a lot of will power and faith to do what you do. Thank you. I see all of these people being just rude and it hurts to see all of this abuse towards a fellow follower. Once again Bravo and thank you."
The students did not expect this and it briefly took the wind out of their sails.
Down the plaza there was a side show with a man (Dan) holding a large sign saying, "JESUS SAVES." Dan remembered me from the University of Wisconsin, Lacrosse when he was a student in 1976. He recalled me moving through the crowd shouting, "I am filled with the Holy Ghost." He said that at one point I asked, "Who here is a Christian?" When a girl next to him lifted her hand high; he took courage and raised his hand half way. He said that hearing me that day "made a lasting impression."   Shortly thereafter he volunteered to go all the way with the Lord. He decided that he could not be a lawyer so he went to seminary in Denver.   He now pastors a church and has an evangelistic association. Before I returned to our circle he said again, "Your ministry made a lasting impression upon me."
Sis. Cindy on the stump with two more costumed hecklers.
I am confident over the last two days we have made a lasting impression on multitudes, numerous of whom will eventually come into the Kingdom of Heaven and look back on these days as a turning point in their lives

THE AFTER EFFECTS OF HALLOWEEN
November 1, 2012, University of Colorado
I had not been preaching for ten minutes when a female brazenly confronted Robert Pruitt, who has hoisted his banner which reads, "God will destroy sinners-- Psalm 37:9." Then she confronted me for not speaking of God's love. It was not long before she pranced into the bookstore and within minutes returned with a large sign which read, "These people do not represent God's love." Her emotions were so stirred that she was shaking. It wasn't long before she lovingly used God's name in vain.   Of course, God used her to draw a sizable crowd. She became even more disturbed when Bro took his turn. Later, she approached me on the sidelines and though still excited she had calmed down some. We talked for 15 minutes, but she would not hear anything I had to say.
Students confront Bro. Jed about his "lack of love."
Bro. Robert Pruitt  did a great job starting the meeting at UC today.
A Lutheran girl introduced herself claiming we were lacking in love and making people feel guilty. She was in tears the fifteen minutes I spoke with her. She departed saying, "I must separate myself from people like you." I had a long talk with a professing Christian who argued for eternal security. He argued that anyone who did not hold to the doctrine must not be saved.   He admitted to a lust problem.   I told him to pluck out his eye.   I counseled him to be more concerned that his sin was an offense to God instead of being so focused on once saved always saved.
There did not seem to be a lot of students passing at the breaks. I had dinner with my niece who attends CU. She said only 11 out of 36 students showed up for her 11 AM class.   Celebrating Halloween has become a drunken debauchery on campus from which students do not recover in a day.   Indeed, most of them never recover.   Once people stung by the poison of sin it takes possession of their whole being. They never recover unless they are born again through Christ.   One night of decadence is deadly to the human spirit.
Numbers were down today because of Halloween hangovers.
Long-time friend, Tony Skala, joined us on campus; he is hosting the Pruitts. When students figured out that he was in support of us, he had people talking to him all afternoon. When Sister Pat and I left at 4:30, he was in the midst of the battle with Bro.   They fought the good fight of faith with the skeptical students.
Obama was scheduled to speak on campus during the evening.   I did not care to attend.
Tony Skala, a local supporter, (on the right) was defending the faith much of the afternoon.

NO PROFANITY ALLOWED!
November 2, 2012, University of Colorado
Evidently, the Halloweeners were back in class today.   There was more movement between classes than yesterday. Cindy drew a large crowd warning the whores and whoremongers of the terrible consequences of sin.
Bro. Robert Pruitt made it clear to the UC students that those who have faith in Christ will refuse to sin.
In my preaching sessions I had a good balance between appealing to their consciences and to their intellects, interspersed with humor.
UC Feminists invade our crowd.
I was surprised when one heckler before he left shook my hand and said, "You have a great sense of humor." Students rarely seem to appreciate my satire; however, probably more get it than are usually willing to admit.
While Bro was preaching I had a conversation with four students; one of whom said, "I heard you are against interracial relationships." I answered, "An interracial relationship is not a moral issue. It is a matter of personal preference."   This is the answer that I had given 30 minutes earlier when someone from the crowd asked what I thought about interracial relationships. It is not unusual for students to totally misrepresent my answers to their questions. I suspect that I may be the most misquoted person in the public square. Students will typically either misquote me or take things I have said out of context to make them sound absurd. But why should I expect any different treatment than Jesus? Of course, some of my satire when repeated by others does not come off as satire to those hearing it from another party.
Sideline conversations in full swing. Left: Sis Sherry, Behind Sign: Bro Cope, Right, Sis. Pat
A girl in this group of four told me her mother had referred to her as a whore for living with her "boyfriend." The girl seemed totally without shame. She said that her parents had divorced within the last year. So it is somewhat understandable that the girl did not have any respect for the institution of marriage.
Students became stirred during Bro's preaching and someone called the police.
A graduate student in communications interviewed me for 30 minutes. He had read Who Will Rise Up? through inter library loans.   He was interested in the dynamics of confrontational evangelism from a scholarly point of view. I also had a time of fellowship with Bobby Pruett, who is the chief of staff for a campus ministry called Christian Challenge.   He has been at CU for many years.   He thanked me for my ministry.
Police explained to the students that they were not allowed to curse and they had to stay 12 feet away from the preachers.
I have known him for around 10 years. He said that when he first heard me he thought the he loved the students more than I since he is on the CU campus all the time. But eventually he changed his mind. He said, "These students that listen to you are not going to come to my meetings." He indicated that I had encouraged him to speak in the open-air outside the Memorial Union. However, in the last few years he had not been doing the open-air evangelism.   I challenged him to start again.   He asked me to pray for his ministry.
A couple of females are very convicted by Sis. Pat's spirit-filled preaching.
In the middle of the afternoon the police stopped Bro.   They had complaints about his coarse language in reference to certain sins. They wanted Bro to sit for a while so I took over. The policeman spoke to the crowd giving guide lines to both sides. We had to maintain a 12 foot distance between the preacher and the students. He said that no profanity permitted from either side. The students were not allowed to put their signs in our faces.   Evidently, Bro had pushed a sign away when a student stuck it in his face. The police handled the situation very well. The policeman started off by saying, "I did not know how I would handle this situation when I got the call, but this is what we are going to do . . ." He evidently knew who I was since he referred to me as "Brother Jed."   The police were not at all arrogant, which I appreciated. Of course, I agreed to the terms; I especially liked the one restricting the profanity.
The majority of the UC students smoke marijuana.  Very few of them have come from Christian homes so they know very little about Christianity.
It is always interesting returning to Boulder. I spent a summer here in the late sixties when it was a hippy haven. The CU Daily did a story on a hippy cult from that era which reported that three of their leaders were dead by the early seventies. Without Christ, I would probably have been in Hell years ago myself. Boulder remains a liberal sanctuary. We were told by a Bobby Pruett's son that few of these students have come from Christian homes.

Fall Semester 2012
This is my tentative schedule for the Fall Semester 2012. There are so many campuses and so little time. Should anyone want to arrange a church or home meeting while I am in your area please contact me. Also, let me know if you are interested in scheduling formal debates with atheists, Muslims, or Christians, who disagree with my message or methods. One student leader recently contacted me that he wanted me to speak to the Young Republicans on limited government and free markets. I am still open to changes. I will be doing my tour of the Southwest and California in the Spring Semester 2013. Sister Cindy and Sister Pat will be accompanying me full time this year.  Any Christians, who are interested in joining us on the road for a while, or who want to meet us on campuses in your area, are welcome.  Remember to pray for the campuses that we have already preached on.  Bro.
