 Your primary medical insurance may exclude scuba diving as a
hazardous recreational activity and/or may not provide coverage
when you are traveling out of the country. If it does provide
coverage, it may pay only a minimal amount for chamber treatments. There are also often large out-of-pocket payments for deductibles and co-pays. These alone can total thousands of dollars. The DAN Dive Accident Insurance Plans are recognized worldwide. The DAN plans provide secondary coverage of up to $500,000 and pay 100% of eligible expenses.

Monthly Dive Social
No club dues, no formal meeting.The dive social & potluck dinner is a chance for us to get together, share a few laughs, catch up with friends, tell a few dive tales and enjoy a meal with fellow divers. The dive social and potluck dinner is held on the last Friday of the month, 7:00 PM, at Jim's Dive Shop. We provide something cooked up on the grill and beverages, please bring an item to share in the potluck dinner.
Everyone is welcome! This is a great way to find a dive buddy and meet other local divers. Be sure to mark your calendar for the last Friday of the month, 7:00 PM.

Gulf Coast Underwater Club
The Gulf Coast Underwater Club meets the third Tuesday of the month, 7:00 PM, at Jim's Dive Shop. The group participates in local spearfishing and photography contests, The Florida SCUBA Olympics, fish surveys, coastal clean-up projects and helps promote the sport of SCUBA in our area. Membership is $45 per year which also includes membership in the Florida Skin Divers Association. Club members also receive reduced rates on some specialty course and trips. Monthly Dive Club Meeting

Topic: Diving Injuries
Our next Gulf Coast Underwater Club meeting is Tuesday, March 19th, 7:00 PM, at Jim's Dive Shop. Our guest speaker for the evening will be Dr. Bruce Flareau. Dr. Flareau will be presenting a seminar on "Diving Injuries" such as ear and sinus squeezes, aquatic bites, stings and puncture wounds, toxic ingestions (ciguatera and red tide), motion sickness, nitrogen narcosis and decompression sickness. Dr. Flareau is with Bay Care Health Systems and is also a DAN (Diver's Alert Network) referral physician. Dr. Flareau is an avid diver and has an extensive knowledge of dive medicine and related injuries.

Upcoming Dive Trips
Here are the dives we have planned so far. If you are interested, please give us a call at the dive shop for complete details. Deposits required to hold your spot, payment in full four days prior to trip. All trips are dependent on weather conditions. Refunds will be given if trip is cancelled by the Captain of the vessel. No money will be refunded if you cancel 48 hours prior to the trip. Sorry, no spearfishing on these trips.
April 7th
Shark Tooth Dive Fossil Dive
Venice, Fl.
Cost: $60 (Does not include gear)
A two tank dive with Aristakat Charters. We will be diving the famous Venice Beach "Bone Yard" in search of prehistoric shark teeth and fossils. Average depth 30 feet. Departure will be from the Venice Boat Ramp 8:00 AM. Maximum 6 divers.
April 20th
Gulf Dive with Tanks-a-Lot
Clearwater, Fl.
Cost $80 (does not include gear)
This will be a two tank dive out of Clearwater, Fl. The plan is an artificial reef and a natural ledge. Depths 40 - 60 feet. Maximum 10 divers. 
April 21stShark Tooth Dive Fossil Dive
Venice, Fl.
Cost: $60 (Does not include gear)

Dive the Mohawk
Departure from Engelwood Fl. 8:00 AM
Cost: $125.00 (does not include gear)
The USS Mohawk is a 165ft Coast Guard Cutter that was sank 28 miles West of Ft. Myers, Fl. in July 2012. The Mohawk sits in 95 feet of water and has quickly become home to an abundance of marine life. Not guaranteed, but whale sharks have been spotted on several Mohawk dives. We will be diving with Aristakat Charters. The dive boat is a 28 ft. Procat Catamaran, with twin 225 Honda motors. The cat is equipped to hold 18 dive tanks plus other required equipment. Maximum 6 divers.  May 17thNight Dive
Departure from Seminole Boat Ramp in Clearwater , Fl. at 5:00 PM
Cost $100.00 (does not include gear)
Divers must have a minimum of two dive lights.
This will be a two tank dive. We will be diving with Tanks-A-Lot. Both dives will be on the same location, the first will be a late afternoon/dusk dive and the second will after the sun sets. Maximum 10 divers.
