Distinguished Eagle Award Presented
|
Long time Scouter Herb Nill is presented with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award at the Inaugural auction benefitting outdoor programs September 14th at Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City.
224 guests gathered and raised $70,000 for council outdoor programs including camp scholarships. The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award was presented by Council President, Blaine Werner and University of Oregon Men's Basketball Coach, and Distinguished Eagle Scout, Dana Altman
Pictured are Oregon Trail Council's Distinguished Eagle Scouts: Coach Dana Altman, Edwin "Ted" Baker, and Herb Nill. The award is granted to Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years, have distinguished themselves in their life work and who have shared their talents with their communities on a voluntary basis. Mr. Nill was nominated by Oregon Trail Council for distinguishing himself in the automobile and RV industry and for his contributions to his community. The members of the selection committee are all recipients of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. Since its establishment in 1969, the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA) has gained prominent standing among Scouting recognitions. Previous recipients include President Gerald R. Ford, several governors and senators, military flag officers, university presidents, chief executive officers of Fortune 500 companies, and nationally known lawyers, educators, and doctors. Recent recipients include Author Stephen Ambrose, Astronaut Neil Armstrong, Basketball Coach Dana Altman, Former Director of the FBI, Louis Freeh, Entrepreneur Steve Fossett, Former Secretary of Defense and Former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Robert Gates, Congressman Pete Sessions and entertainer Mike Rowe. Each of the recipients had risen to a state of fame or eminence in his chosen life work before receiving the DESA.

NOW is the time to complete your unit's Recharter. This is the annual Scouting renewal process that all Packs, Troops, Teams, Crews, Ships, and Posts conduct in the fall.
The on-line process of renewing your unit to National BSA is quicker and easier than it has ever been! One of the main advantages of on-line rechartering is that you do the editing of your unit's roster to be sure everyone's personal information is correct.
After you have submitted on-line and then printed out your Recharter roster, please be sure to obtain all of the required signatures, otherwise it will be returned to you for proper signatures.
Don't delay! Collect everyone's individual annual dues this month if you have not already. Then be prepared to write ONE check to the council for your entire Recharter. If families aren't able to pay the national $15 dues, use the white Registration Aid form in your packet (available from your District Staff). But, be sure to send in the $2 insurance fee per person which cannot be covered by Council aid.
.
It is important that everything is accurate since everyone works off of these rosters all year long, especially with recording the Scouts' advancement achievements.
By working and completing your Recharter now, you'll be able to sail through the holidays without this still on your "to do" list, and know that you've "done your best to do your duty"! Thanks in advance for making this task a priority this month.
Recharters are due to the Council Service Center by November 17th. CLICK HERE to begin. If you need assistance, contact your Unit Commissioner or District Executive. They are ready to assist you today!

| Scouting for Food is our local Council's effort to raise many thousands of pounds of food for the hungry in our own communities using the spirit of service that is in the heart of each of our Scouts.
This year Lane County Units will be collecting food on Saturday, November 10th in neighborhoods as assigned by event coordinators and Douglas County Units will be collecting on Saturday, November 17th. Last year over 25,000 pounds was collected in Lane County and over 30,000 pounds in Douglas County. Maybe this year we can do even more!
