Helping Parents Needed for IEP Support!

We are looking for NEW or SEASONED Helping Parents willing to go through additional training that would enable you to support families in the IEP process.  You would meet with the parents prior to the IEP, act as a

South Sound Dads' Advocacy Group
 
There is a long-standing Dad's Advocacy Group that has been meeting at the Dancing Goats Coffee Shop in Lacey (near the Lacey Transit Center and new SPSCC campus).  They meet on most Tuesdays at about 1:15 pm.  This group advocates with agencies and with the Legislature on issues impacting young adults with developmental disabilities.  The group is open to dads but will accept needs, issues and questions from anyone related to the population served.  The group is currently working on:  1) housing alternatives for young adults with disabilities whose parents are aging or otherwise impaired; 2) tax issues; 3) labor/union issues, and; 4) problems being experienced with CARE assessment processes.  For more information contact:  Loren M. Support Group Resumes!



 
9th Annual Buddy Walk

The 9th Annual Buddy Walk will be on October 1, 2016.  The event is held to promote awareness and inclusion of Down Syndrome.  Where: Lacey Fire Station 34 at 8407 Steilacoom Road SE  in Lacey.  Registration, which is free, starts at 9 am and there will be a short program at 10 am.  There will be a photo booth, face painting, bubbles, lots of free food, a balloon artist and magician.  After the program, there is a one mile walk around the nearby Regional Athletic Center.  The sidewalk is wide and level.  There will be door prizes also.  Everyone is welcome!  The proceeds from this event are used to aid children and adults with Down syndrome, including therapies, dance classes, martial arts, horse riding, Special Olympics and scholarships.
