Greetings,
While working with the State Librarians on a digital literacy project, we met up with Derek Miyasato who is in charge of IT and network infrastructure for the Hawaii Public Library System. He reports directly to the State Librarian so he's their top IT expert. Derek says, "I've always liked to help people so what I like most about my job is that it's very rewarding knowing what I do helps not only patrons of the library system but those who work in it as well." He tells us it was a Cisco networking course taught by Dallas Shiroma that got him interested in his career. Seeing Derek experiencing success reinforces our belief that good training works.
We wish you all the best in 2015 and hope to share in your success.

The list includes the ethical dilemma with questions to consider and resources for you to learn more about these issues. Each month in 2015, the Reilly Center will cover these topics in depth, providing a stimulating venue for discussion. Topics include real-time satellite surveillance, brain-to-brain interfaces, and state-sponsored hacktivism and "soft war", all timely topics for us to think about.

Take your MCP and MTA Exams from...Home?
 | image Microsoft
|
Yes, it's true, Microsoft and Pearson VUE are offering online proctored certification exams which you can take from home. Before you sign up, be sure you check the requirements. Be prepared for a seriously proctored experience where you must empty your pockets, show a visual of your environment, and do a camera close-up of your ears (you know why). The PCATT Professional Exam Center at Honolulu Community College continues to be an option if you prefer a traditional testing environment.

-More money spent on security will lead to... more security breaches-related losses
-Data is the new product
-Some sectors will not see the fruits of digitization for a long time
-The Cloud is the New Normal

Benefits of the VMware Academy

Benefits of Academy affiliations at PCATT transfer to you, our participant. You have the option of taking a 40-hour, one week course directly from VMware or the same course in an extended delivery method through the VMware Academy. Twice a week meetings through the Academy allow time to apply what you learn at work and return to class to ask questions and experience a practical application of the concepts. The curriculum is identical to the course taught by VMware and qualifies you to take the VCP certification exam. VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [v5.5] starts on January 28.

Since some of us tend to eat a lot during the holiday season, quick preparation can help with our food consumption. We leave you with a way to prepare shrimp tempura in three seconds. Caution: This is one of those "do-not-try-this-at-home" items. Happy New Year!
