Greetings!

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. It's a good opportunity to take advantage of the many activities and resources available throughout the month sponsored by various organizations. Here are sites I like:

Remember to follow best practices for security and above all, use common sense. PCATT offers security training (Security+, CCNA Security, CISSP) for interested folks.

Stay safe,

VMworld 2013 - Defy Convention

Mario Mediati, PCATT VMware Academy Manager,

attended VMworld 2013 held in San Francisco. Over 23,000 people attended this conference, an indication of the importance of virtualization and the anticipation of new VMware programs.

Pat Gelsinger, VMware CEO, announced the release of vSphere 5.5 at the beginning of his keynote presentation in the general session on the first day of VMworld 2013.

He also announced the release of VMware NSX, VMware's network virtualization platform. NSX created a buzz at VMworld. When VMware acquired Nicera just before VMworld 2012, we all knew this was coming. I haven't seen it yet, but it promises to bring the same operational model of virtual machines to the network, another step closer to VMware's "Software Defined Datacenter". As soon as VMware NSX courses are available to the VMware IT Academy, I'm sure PCATT will offer them.

Details of the new release of vSphere was the subject of several breakout sessions, and that's where I spent most of my time. To read some of what's new in vSphere 5.5 see the PCATT Blog.

VMware vSphere Blog vmware

Staying on the topic of VMware, there's a lot happening now that vSphere 5.5 is available.  This VMware Blog with a list of VSAN references written by VMware bloggers also contains instructions on how to sign up for the VSAN beta with links to demos, videos, and labs. PCATT will be teaching the last VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [v5.1] course starting November 13. The next course taught will be version 5.5.

"6 tips for finding mobile app talent"

Mobile apps

From NetworkWorld: "To understand what's hot in the IT job market today, just ask yourself a simple question: When is the last time you checked your mobile device or used the mobile Web?" Scot Melland, CEO of DICE Holdings, Inc., says one of the fastest growing job areas is HTML 5 and finding qualified mobile developers is difficult. Tech recruiter Cybercoders located in Massachusetts says tech pros with mobile development skills receive four to five job offers. You get the idea. PCATT has courses where you can start to learn these skills. HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery for Dynamic Websites starts October 24. Android Application Development - Level 1 starts November 7.

A Capella Science - Bohemian Gravity!

Wikipedia starts to define string theory like this:

"In physics, string theory is a theoretical framework in which the point-like particles of particle physics are replaced by one-dimensional objects called strings."

If that makes your head spin, this YouTube video will bring it to life, promise. (Thank you ACapellaScience)
