Software-Defined Networking
 | | Graphic from PC World |
Just days apart, these two articles appeared in Network World. The first talks about a Cisco-funded router startup that "implements breakthrough silicon-to-photonics circuitry for scaling service provider networks and enabling them for software-defined networking (SDN)." A few days later, VMware announces new technology acquired from Nicira will be integrated in VMware networking technology. Nicira was started by former Cisco employees. Both the Cisco and VMware technologies involve SDN and impressive technology upgrades, trends we're keeping our eye on.

Speaking of trends, Greg Satell writes in Forbes, "Today, we're on the brink of a new digital paradigm, where the capabilities of our technology are beginning to outstrip our own." He speaks of:
1. No-Touch Interfaces
2. Native Content
3. Massively Online
4. The Web of Things
5. Consumer Driven Supercomputing
His conclusion, "The future of technology is, ironically, all too human." We certainly hope so.

Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC)

HCC-UH West Oahu Team
|
Imagine managing and securing a bio-tech animal research facility which receives bomb threats and hacks from animal rights activists. This was part of a virtual cyber defense competition in which a joint Honolulu CC-UH West Oahu team took second place behind the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Utah, Wyoming, and Pennsylvania also fielded student teams. It's great to see successful practical application of education in a real world scenario. We're proud of our team from Hawaii. Aso College graduates
|
No, that's not new a programming language. It's Japanese for "Congratulations". We send our congratulations and best wishes to the Aso College students who recently graduated in Fukuoka, Japan. They spent a week with us in November studying English and advanced technology topics. Job placement rate for Aso College graduates is an admirable 98%. Notice "shaka" replaced the peace sign they were flashing last November.
