Getting the Flu Vaccine
Dr. Hayat: Flu season is around the corner and the vaccine does help prevent the flu in many cases. Each year a new vaccine is developed to protect against mutations in the virus from the previous year. We highly recommend the elderly and those who around children most of the day get the flu vaccine. Read more about the flu and flu vaccines here: flu vaccines. Those who are allergic to eggs should be careful getting the vaccine and may want to get it at an allergist's office. If they decide not to get the flu vaccine, there are some flu medications that can be taken with 24 hours of developing flu symptoms. The vaccine itself does not cause the flu. Anti-biotics do not protect against the flu because the flu is caused by a virus, not by bacteria.

Welcome to September and welcome to all of our new patients and newsletter subscribers! We hope everyone who started school (parents, teachers, students) all had a successful transition back! We have some new members of the avecinia family that we are excited to introduce and other useful news and information for everyone.
Flu shots will be available starting September 9th. Vaccinations will be available at both our Clovis and Fresno locations on a first come first serve basis. You don't need an appointment to get a shot. Most insurances cover the cost of the flu vaccine. If you don't have insurance, it is only $25. Call us at 559-324-9900 before you plan on coming in to make sure we have them in stock.
Jennifer Delayo, Family Nurse Practitioner will be joining us in the Clovis office. Jennifer is excited to meet all of you and especially interested in working with our diabetic patients to help them control their diabetes and live a healthy, happy life. Di Prado will be joining us in the Fresno office as our new Front Office Receptionist. She's excited to say hi to each of you that comes in and make sure you have the best appointment possible.
You can still get our special gym membership deal this month- unlimited classes for just $19 a month! We've had 30 people sign up and take advantage of this great deal to get back in shape and lead a healthy, active lifestyle. We hope to double that number this month! We need to reach 200 monthly members by the end of December tocontinue this program for everyone! If you sign up 3 of your friends, you can get a month for free! And now we have Zumba on Monday's and Wednesday's at 7 pm, and Tuesday's and Thursday's at 6:15 pm. We also have Pilates on Wednesdays at 5:15 pm. We will be closed on Monday, September 3rd for Labor Day. If you need to reach us for anything, like a prescription refill request (the best way is to contact your pharmacy and have them send us the request electronically) or appointment request or a non-emergency medical question, contact us through the patient portal. If you have an emergency, please call 911!
