  Gigantic Mentoring Event for Newcomers!

Monday, November 26, 2012

3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Grand Metropolitan of Mississauga

Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) will be hosting a GIGANTIC Newcomer Speed Mentoring event in partnership with ACCES Employment.

The event is part of Mississauga Board of Trade's ITS (International Trained and Skilled) in Mississauga program, which is is an employer-focused program delivered by the Mississauga Board of Trade, geared at assisting Mississauga businesses with the employment integration of foreign trained professionals.

Speed Mentoring was developed by ACCES Employment to allow new Canadians to meet with professionals in their field in a short, condensed timeframe. As a mentor, you will meet one-on-one with mentees for 10 minutes, then a bell rings, and the mentee moves to the next mentor.

ACCES Employment developed this program as a way for job seekers to get first-hand knowledge of industry trends, hiring procedures and to make real-life connections with industry leaders.

Speed Mentoring is a high-energy networking event that will leave you feeling inspired by Canada's incoming global talent.

Please join us.  We look forward to seeing you there.

To RSVP, please contact:

MBOT President and CEO Reaches out to Newcomers

MBOT President & CEO Sheldon Leiba (centre) posing with Newcomers in attendance at Costi's Mississauga location.

Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) President and CEO, Sheldon addressed over 40 newcomers and entrepreneurs from Costi Immigrant Services on October 15, 2012.

The event, which was held at Costi's Mississauga location, covered the topic "Ten Qualities of Highly Successful Internationally Experienced Professionals".

The presentation was a unique list compiled by Sheldon himself, much of the material inspired by his years of experience working with business, as an employer, mentoring and working with newcomers and immigrant settlement support agencies alike.

"We have a great opportunity in Mississauga to leverage the skills and talents of newcomers to contribute as employees in workplaces and as entrepreneurs generating economic activity and creating new jobs. As a leader at MBOT, I enjoy supporting both businesses and newcomers towards elevating economic prosperity and quality of life in our community" says Leiba.

The presentation was capped off with a Q&A. All newcomers in attendance were able to ask questions and receive immediate feedback from Leiba.

On November 20, 2012 thousands of professionals from across Canada will gather in Toronto to discover the ideas and trends shaping the future of management.

This one day conference features keynote speaker

First-ever Hazel McCallion Arts for Life Gala

After 25 years as Mississauga's premier social event, the Mayor's Gala will make way for the official fundraiser for the very arts complex it spawned ... the venue which has hosted it for the past 15 years - The Living Arts Centre (LAC) of Mississauga. This will be the first ever Hazel McCallion Arts for Life Gala.

All proceeds from this Black Tie Affair go to the Living Arts Program Initiatives Fund, which supports summer outreach
programs for at risk communities, ongoing programs for emerging Mississauga performers and artists, including expanded exhibitions of visual arts, and also assists local arts groups to perform at LAC.
