Our new show "Calligraphy and Collage" opens during ArtWalk, November 14, from 5-8. For this show Kathleen Master will be our featured artist with additional work by Brian Andreas, Martha Johnson, Jan Francoeur and Mary Anne Radmacher.
Kathleen is a self taught, mixed media, North Carolina artist who uses acid etched copper and formed clay on salt resist silk and cotten with natural organics to create one-of-a-kind pieces.
"I love the tooth and texture of different papers and fabrics and the way they take paint and dye.
My parents encouraged me as a child to create, they would bring boxes of discarded materials for me to use in my projects! I have worked with mixed media and collage ever since.", Kathleen says. For over 25 years Kathleen has been making a living with her creations.

________________________________

What's New!
River Hill Pottery
In 1970 Phil & Gail Sellers graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute where Phil majored in painting and Gail majored in Industrial Design. Both minored in ceramics with Ken Ferguson and pottery became their passion. In 1978 their talents were put to use when they founded River Hill Pottery.
Over the past forty four years their interest has shifted from wheel throwing to hand building. Using coils to lattice developed into weaving the coiled pieces. The first coils were hand rolled individually, but as the experience of weaving the clay developed the focus shifted.
They began working with extruded clay, which gave them the opportunity to create their own dies and spend more time with weaving patterns. Developing molds that they could weave over, has led them to the forms and shapes they now use.
Their signature series have unique extrusions and weaving patterns. These baskets have unusual carved rims that look like wood and are signed and dated.

Peter James

The hand forged pieces by Peter James designer Lyn Matsen, transforms wire and sheet metals into wearable works of art.

Using a kick press tool Lynette is able to create a unique and dramatic result, bringing to metal a natural flowing form that is inspired by the beauty of the water.

Lyn knew from the age of 14 that her life's passion was jewelry design.

Anna Balkan

Anna Balkan's uninhibited use of color and bold innovation come from a lifetime of seeing beyond limits and following the signs of her own journey.

Anna grew up in the Chernobyl area of the Ukraine, when the culture was grey and resourcefulness was a necessity.  She learned to knit and crochet, making the things that were needed from what ever was on hand.

Anna Balkan's handcrafted necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings are distinctive conversation pieces composed of the finest natural semi-precious gemstones and pearls from around the world.  Designed from the heart, Anna's bold jewelry plays out on a canvas of 14k gold filled and sterling silver metals. Her designs showcase unique color combinations and each piece makes a remarkable fashion statement. Particular attention is paid to the way the colors and textures work together and how the light plays and reflects among the stones.

Liz Palacios

Liz Palacios is the eldest of three sisters, Liz was born in New York City to a family of Colombian immigrants.  She developed an interest in antique jewelry at the age of 18, acquiring pieces throughout the years as a hobby.

In 1987, this interest inspired Palacios to launch a business based on her personal passion. Liz uses brass as the metal in her pieces and it is either antiqued or plated with gold or sterling silver.  All jewelry remains nickel free.

She use Swarovski crystals, semi precious stones, pearls and hand-painted enamel.  Wires on the earrings are sterling silver or gold filled and posts are surgical steel.

Angelika tells us about her work. "My designs reflect a painter's love of rich color and themes from nature. I select only the most beautiful glass and unusual adornments to create intricate, jewel-like pieces, many with three-dimensional qualities. Each piece is meticulously crafted with attention to both quality design and construction.

I have been the grateful recipient of many U.S. and International show awards, but was especially happy to have my work chosen twice as part of the permanent Christmas Ornament Collection of the White House.
