featured Artist at Carolina Creations
Lou Plummer Evolution Paper Collage
Lou creates collage from her hand made papers. Before working with paper Lou spent many years as a professional photographer but always longed to work with her hands. After attending a class at the John C Campbell School in Brasstown she found her calling. Claudia Lee has been her teacher and mentor ever since.
The paper Lou uses is created by first beating down fiber into pulp. The pulp can be used in its natural state or dyes added for color. The pulp is then drained through a screen (mould) and laid down. Water is removed by pressing and drying to make paper.
Lou has chosen to title her show 'Evolution' to show the progression from her first experiments with paper to her current expression through collage. To see more of her work click here.

North Carolina artist Zach Murray cuts silhouettes on Sept 7 11-5 at Carolina Creations! Call us to make an appointment, it takes about 10 minutes per person (or pet). 252-633-4369.
The cost is $19 per Silhouette, additional copies of that Silhouette are $10.
Silhouette cutting is a rare form of portraiture that is not practiced by many artists today. Zachary Murray has been a professional Silhouette Artist for over eight years and has cut out thousands of memorable portraits for people everywhere.
Using his scissors he cuts each original silhouette freehand by simply looking at the subject's profile or picture. |
They're Back!!
We have the clever balance clocks again! After a couple years absence Mike Mikutowski was finally able to find a watch works for his balance clocks. The only thing that keeps the clock up is being perfectly balance on that tiny 1/2" piece of wood. For sizes and prices click here. |
Jewelry - always something new!
Desert Heart is the creation of artist Deborah Sparshott. After working in a number of art and craft mediums, she settled in to jewelry in the mid 1980's.
Besides Deborah's keen sense of color and design, the carefully considered range of materials contribute to the unique effect. Deborah carefully selects all the materials- subtle shades and specially finished Austrian crystal, vintage beads not seen in decades, a palette of semi-precious stones and beads, metal stampings, charms and chains from America's golden age of costume jewelry, the natural beauty of freshwater pearls. We are always excited to see what Deborah will come up with next! For prices and to see more of Deborah's work click here!

Introducing the work of Davin and Susan Butterfield
Welcome to Davin and Susan! We met the Butterfields last winter and were attracted to their work, not only for the shapes and decoration but when you run your hands over the piece the glaze feels like silk! As an introduction Davin wrote this about himself and his work.
"I have always wanted to live the life of a rural potter. The presence of the woods, gardens and wildlife is inspirational. Working with clay gives me a physical and spiritual connection to the earth. Making pottery that functions in use and aesthetic beauty has been a life long pursuit. My father was a potter in Massachusetts and Ohio in the 70's. Being in the studio was a great joy of my childhood. The process of making clay to the unloading of kilns was fascinating. I have been working professionally for over 25 years in pottery. We now work with a gas fire reduction kiln in beautiful blue and green glazes. The work we have created for Carolina Creations is porcelain oxide brushed vases and serving dishes. These pieces are decorated by my wife Susan who is an accomplished painter. The forms are enhanced by floral patterns that are given depth by atmospheric wood-ash, salt vapor, and oxide saturated shino glazes." |
