What a whirlwind!

One of our favorite things about this time of the year is we get so many visitors. This year we've seen a definite uptick in people saying there are here looking at property which is good news for everyone.

We took a months break from our newsletter so no, you did not get left off the list for June. Michael and I went on a two week trip to Michigan to visit family and to go to Michael's 50th class reunion. Between getting ready for that and having a very busy May, the time just slipped away.

We are back now and creating in full swing. We have many new and exciting artists this summer so we'll do our best to give you a peek at them in this newsletter.
Another Drumm at Carolina Creations!
We've been representing pewter artists Don Drumm and daughter Leandra Drumm for many years.

Now Leandra's sister Elisa has joined us as well.

Elisa creates mirrors, boxes, tables and jewelry on wood. To see a few more of her pieces

Janet Dixon Watercolors
Featured Artist for July & August
Meet her at ArtWalk
Friday, July 12, 2013

Red White and Blue

New Bern artist Janet Dixon is our featured artist for July and August. Her show consists of paintings that are done in full spectrum watercolors and paintings of the same scene done using only red, white, and blue. It creates a very interesting show - showing how a painting can be done with a limited palette, then what happens when other colors are added.

For the most part Janet is self-taught, although she has studied with some leading regional artists in Delaware and Pennsylvania and has attended workshops with nationally and internationally known artists. She recently attended the Cape School of Art in Massachusetts.

Janet loves the freedom and challenge of watercolor and the process of discovery that takes place when the paint itself takes on a life of its own.

Janet has exhibited in numerous art shows in Delaware, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She has been commissioned by many collectors and her work is part of corporate and private collections. She was selected out of 11,000 artists across the US as a finalist in "the Artist" magazine's 1997 art competition and one of ten finalists in the "International Artist" Magazine's 2002 art competition. She has taught private art lessons and workshops since 1993.

She is a Signature Member of WSNC. She has been published in the book, How Did You Paint That? 100 ways to paint People & figures - Volume 2. She has won "Best in Show" and "First Place-Watercolors" awards in various regional exhibitions.

Janet is a native of Greensboro, NC After living for thirteen years in Delaware, where her art career began, she moved to Greenville, NC in 1998. She was instrumental in starting Brushstrokes, a group of Greenville artists. Janet and her husband moved to New Bern, NC in July 2011.

Stop in to meet Janet during ArtWalk. We'll also be tasting deserts from Ribeyes Steakhouse!

Andree Richmond creates whimsical sculpture

andree tube frogs
New Bern artist Andree Richmond creates fabulous, whimsical sculptures. Each piece is hand sculpted, fired, then decorated with underglazes, and fired again, sometimes many more times.

Andree's creations are animals often show in human like positions and are a delight for all ages.

Her artist statement says, "Technology and the current economic system move us at breakneck speed separating us from our natural rhythms, wooing us onto wheels to travel too fast to nourish our soul and sense of humor. My work is about my struggle for balance."

Many other pieces are shown on our website. View by clicking here.

New Glass Art by Paul Labrie

Paul Labrie does both lampwork and blown glass. We are always looking to add to our collection of sea life.

Paul has created turtles, dolphins, snails, jellyfish, even a diver for us.

Wood by Matt Thomas

A close brush with death encouraged Matt to make his living as a craftsman. After many years of working construction Matt took a serious fall that could have ended his life, so he took his knowledge of working with wood and turned it into a full time business. We have just received a beautiful collection of his serving boards and chopsticks.

Misti Martin Jewelry
We've been searching for a nice nautical jewelry line and we've finally found it with Misti! In addition she has sent us some lovely opals. All of Misti's jewelry is sterling silver, 14kt gold and colored gemstones.

We have new work coming in from our artists almost every day!

Beach Inspired Linens
Beautiful, handprinted linens with Lowcountry and coastal prints have just arrived.

Block printed by hand - we love the fresh designs and the bright colors!

Hand crafted in the Carolinas.

Downtown News and Calendar

There is always something going on in our Downtown!

We are getting new sidewalks and light poles on South Front Street to tie the look into the rest of our Downtown. This project is paid for by the MSD tax that only Downtown property owners pay so if you don't have property from the Neuse river to Hancock Street or the Trent River to Broad Street you are not paying for this project! The project is moving along nicely and is causing minimal inconvenience on that street.

Some shops are moving around. Bear Hands Pottery is relocating to 1208 Pollock Street and the frame shop is reverting to it's previous name, Ballantyne Framing and has relocated to Craven Street where Beads and Bowls was (who too have moved out of our Downtown).

Plans are already being finalized for our Downtown Christmas celebration. We'll keep you posted as those details are finalized.
