Don't Forget Your Valentine!
February 14 is just around the corner
Our heart suncatchers are by Hamid Enami. Born in Iran, Hamid came to the United States in 1977 to study at Southwest State University in San Marcos, Texas.
He started working on his engineering degree, but after taking an elective course in painting he realized Art was his passion.
He soon changed his degree plan to Fine Arts. Hamid creates his unique line of stained glass suncatchers using stained glass, glass beads, copper wire, agates and copper foil.
His stained glass hearts are one of our favorites but he also creates dragonfly, butterfly and star suncatchers for us. |
Valentine Gifts
We've been getting in new jewelry and other accessories for Valentine's Day! We've been expanding our offerings of handbags and scarves - we DO listen to what you ask for! The handbag on the left is designed by Ruth E. Hernández Beltrá and made with vinyl - the same material used in public transportation seats - and the handles with cotton straps used for wooden shutters. Very clever! The second bag is from a series of leather bags by Lainie. These bags have unique linings with all kinds of organizational pockets, slots, zippers and unexpected leather treatments. The Italian retro-upholstery leather is super soft and the designs are GREAT!!

Made in the Carolinas our heart pins, by Suz Mole, are just plain fun.
These adorable heart pins are made from shards of glass cut to funky heart shapes and wrapped in copper foil.
Suz then wraps them with beads and charms to make a great wearable art conversation piece! Every one is different.

7th Annual Valentine Card Show and Sale
We are pleased to announce our Seventh Annual Valentine Card Show and Sale from now through February 14.
The cards feature original works by K-12 Craven County Schools art students, representing a wide range of thought, style, and expression along with a wide variety of materials, including hand-made paper, oil, pastel, collage, watercolor and ink. The cards are $3 each and ALL proceeds are donated to the Craven County Art Program.
Each year we're excited to see what the classes have come up with. They often study a particular artist then do work that is inspired by that artist.
Stop by during ARTWALK on Friday, January 11 from 5-8 pm to meet some of the students.

LOTS AND LOTS OF BEAUTIFUL JEWELRY!!
Our artists have been busy getting new work to us after Christmas. We've gotten new watches by Watchcraft - Eduardo Milieris' Watchcraft collection consists of spectacular one-of-a-kind watches, which marry state-of-the-art quartz movement for precise timekeeping with the patina of an artifact dug up by a treasure hunter. Eduardo Milieris' unique watches come many different styles with watch faces that are round, hexagonal, square, and rectangular. There are small and large face watches in the collection and many are unisex. The metal watches are embellished in copper, silver, and brass. The metal watch bands are imprinted with beautiful designs such as dials, spirals, perforations, leaves, dots, textures, and concrete engravings. Eduardo's studio is at the foot of the Queensborough Bridge and was relieved to tell us that Sandy's destruction missed his studio - just by a few feet though!! These watches are truly works of art.
