February 16, 2013
FUMC, Harlingen
Greetings!

This Sunday we begin our Lenten series: The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus.  We hope you will be able to join us as we begin the journey toward Easter.

This coming Tuesday, February 19, we will be holding our Administrative meetings:
Trustee Committee: 6:00 PM (Fellowship Hall)
Finance Committee: 6:30 PM (Fellowship Hall)
Administrative Council: 7:00 PM (Fellowship Hall)

Remember, you are welcome and encouraged to join us at these meetings... especially our Administrative Council.  This is where the business of the church gets done.

Finally, we would like to thank all who made our Youth Valentine's Banquet a success.  Our congregation helped out in so many ways: donations, buying tickets, working on the cooking crew... thank you so much for your generosity.

*Remember, tomorrow, February 17 from 8:30 - 11:00 AM we will hold the last of our Youth Breakfast Fundraisers in the Raimond Christian Center.  Hope to see you there!

Yours in Christ,

LENTEN SEASON
Lenten Series

The season of Lent (a time of preparation for the celebration of Easter) is now underway.  We are doing a study throughout the Lenten Season called, The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus.  Books and devotionals are available in the Welcome Center for anyone interested.  You can also get the benefit of the video portion of the series... there is an Adult Sunday School class that meets in the Fellowship Hall at 9:15 each Sunday, and we are willing to provide the DVD for other groups interested.  Contact David for details.

LENTEN DISCIPLINES
Find Your Way to Mark the Lenten Season

The 40 day season of Lent is a great time to explore, grow, or start new spiritual disciplines: prayer, devotions, giving, sacrificing, service, ways to help the poor and needy, these are all great ways to grow spiritually.  We encourage you to consider finding a way to intentionally seek a closer relationship with Christ this year.

PARK PLACE MEN'S GROUP TO SING
Sunday, February 24, 2013

Next Sunday, February 24, 2013, the Park Place Men's Group will be providing special music in our 9:15 AM Traditional Service.  This is a talented group that you'll enjoy.  Invite your friends to join us.

MEN'S MINISTRY PLANS
Be A Part of the Growth...

Hey guys... looking for a way to connect within the church that is fun, useful, and exciting?  We are beginning the process of developing a Men's Ministry at First United Methodist Church, and are going to kick it off with a BBQ to talk about ideas and just get a sense of who is interested.  We'll hold the BBQ at Zac McLemore's place on Saturday, March 9, 2013.  Mark your calendars and watch for more information.

KID'S CHURCH TEAM MEMBERS NEEDED
Be a Part of a Growing Ministry at FUMC
JAM Kids
Looking for a special way to serve for the start of Lent?  If you enjoy children, consider serving on a Kid's Church team for the next 3 months.  Each team leads KC downstairs in the Fellowship Hall once every 4 weeks during the second service with kids from 4 y/o to 5th grade.   With Lent, Holy Week, and Mother's Day coming up in the next several weeks we're expecting to see more kids as well as more guests, and we want them to hear the good news, experience God's love, and want to come back for more.  We have some great volunteers working on our 4 teams, but we could use more.

Here's how to serve on a team:

First, see Jet for a brief training and to fill out a background check.
Second, when you are assigned to a team you will be sent your lesson for the week.  Read it over ahead of time and check with your team leader.
Third, meet downstairs in the Fellowship Hall at 10:30AM on your Sunday for prayer and setup.  Kid's Church begins shortly after 11 when the kids come downstairs from the sanctuary.  It ends when the kids are picked up, usually by 12:30 or 12:40.

If this is a ministry you're interested in or if you just have questions contact Jet ([email protected]).
MEN'S CHURCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE
March - May 2013

The Men's Church Softball League will be starting up again this spring.  Participants must be at least 15 years old, and be an attender of our church.  We are looking forward to another great year.  If you are interested in playing - please contact Bill Fray at [email protected].
The season is scheduled to run from March - May of 2013
