Wild Blue Fancy Feast a Success!

Wild Blue celebrated its 6th annual "A Fancy Feast' Fundraiser on Friday, August 7th at The Pinery at Black Forest event center in our own neighborhood. Thanks to the support of our sponsors, donors and guests the event raised $13K to benefit the sanctuary and the cats and kittens we work to save!

The award-winning, local family band 'The Wielands of Mass Destruction' entertained the crowd with their unique blend of bluegrass music. News anchor,
Brittany Bailey from KRDO NewsChannel 13 returned to join us as emcee and we are honored that she volunteers her time to spend the evening helping to 'Save Precious Lives'!

Highlights of the evening included heart touching stories of Wild Blue kitties by adopter,  Katherine Ward and Wild Blue foster, Angela Smith.

Big purrs and head bonks to this year's event sponsors - St Paws Thrift Store (overall event sponsor); Wild Blue Board President Karen Eberhart and her husband, retired General Ed Eberhart (wine); 5Star Bank (entertainment) and Colonel Kurt Gaudette and his wife, Kim (centerpieces) and Perini & Associates (media advertising).

Remembering Zeus

Wild Blue's 'mascot' kitty Zeus was humanely euthanized and crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in early August.

Zeus was a very sweet and loving kitty who lived at the sanctuary for a long, long time. He was rescued from a retirement community where he lived mostly outside and they did take good care of him until it got too cold and they wanted to make sure that he would be safe.

He fought health issues so hard for so long, but the time came to say goodbye. At the end he was comfortably resting on a pillow by his favorite spot in the window surrounded by people who loved him.

As one of the volunteers said --
"Although he is leaving us today, his memory will always remain, along with his spirit.  It'll be empty not having him in his spot, but the sanctuary will always be filled with the kind memories he once gave us. Have fun over the Rainbow Bridge our Zeus, for all of us have enjoyed and loved you."

And Lauri shared this --
"Thanks to everyone.  He received a lot of love at the end from so many volunteers.  Then about fifteen minutes after he left us, a beautiful ray of sunshine came through the clouds onto the sanctuary.  I am sure it was him."

Thank You Sam!
Meet Volunteer Samuel Baldwin

Samuel is 14 years old and has been a weekly year-round volunteer at Wild Blue since 2011.  He has also helped out at adoption events and the Black Forest Annual Parade.

Samuel is a Boy Scout and he completed his Eagle project at the sanctuary by adding better "roof" material to the outdoor areas.  We were having trouble with raccoons getting into "kittyville" and he made everything more secure.

He loves all animals and plays the piano.  He also enjoys the outdoors, drawing, reading, baseball and cooking.

Samuel loves seeing the personalities of the cats come to life, feeling that he can make even a small difference in their well-being and happiness.  Samuel is learning responsibility while serving others. He just started his freshman year at St. Mary's High School. Thank you Samuel!

TCA Students and Fort Carson Soldiers
Clean Up Days

BIG PURRS & MEOWS to our teen volunteers The Classical Academy and soldiers from Fort
Carson's 10th Special Forces Group for their help at the sanctuary with tasks like landscaping, painting, gutter cleaning and putting up an electric fence near the feral cat area to deter the raccoons.

All of the volunteers dedicated hours of their own time to completing the much needed work! Simply amazing!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help ......the kitties all appreciated it and so do we!
