Donate Your Old Cellphones to Help Domestic Violence Victims

During October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness month, we will be collecting old cell phones to help domestic violence victims. Refurbished phones will be given to domestic violence victims and survivors so they can reach emergency or support services in times of crisis and stay connected with employers, family, and friends. 

• Erase any data from the phone and disconnect the device's service with your wireless provider.
• Remove any storage cards (microSD, etc.) and SIM cards from the phone and be sure to include any travel chargers or other accessories that came with the device that you no longer need.
• Turn the phone's power off
• Make sure the phone's batteries are installed in the phone. Please do not include any loose batteries. 

This event is part of Verizon Wireless Hopeline Program.  It is coordinated by Hope Rising, which provides aid and support to organizations whose primary mission is to serve people who are affected by sexual and domestic violence in Collin County. Verizon launched its HopeLine phone recycling program nationwide in October 2001 to put its technology to work in communities and give consumers a way to help prevent domestic violence.

In November, we will have a food drive to collect canned fruit for the Community Food Pantry of McKinney. 

They requested canned fruit because each month they need an average of 3,000 cans of fruit. In August, they fed 673 families, which included 1,000 children. 

The Community Food Pantry is a nonprofit outreach program that provides food to families who are in need due to job loss or other situations that cause financial hardship.
